Like a virgin .... hey!

Any other active forum backers out there saving their innocence for the gamma?

I mean, these other people having these fleeting relationships with unstable code - how do they do it?

When they wake up the next morning following a gripping joystick session, do they not see the commander besides them is a stranger - a cloned rehash, reborn from the ashes of crashes. These delusions gifted as practice sessions in preparation for the gamma only serve to further poison their innocence. Why tear through your embryonic world to stumble into this distorted place feared by the creator himself. Had you held your child closer, you could have exploded into life when the time was right.

You could have lived every moment of your commanders life, knowing that every move you make will be free of dilution and corruption in both its form, and your own memory.

How could you blindly read an early incomplete manuscript, void of any proofreading, when you know that in time, the touch of this buried, pristine monolith could transform you back to that child, rather than just to some recent alpha/beta memory.

No.

For some people (me certainly) the journey is as important as the destination. Being directly involved with the process and able to feedback to the creators of how that process works for you, gives opportunity to address issues of concern, while those elements are still being explored. FD won't always agree with testers, but they do listen and do make changes if the reasoning is valid and doesn't conflict with their direction for the game.

I can imagine nothing worse than refusing to participate when the opportunity presented itself and then having issues with the final product knowing I might have been able to make a difference.

That's a bit like finding the girl of your dreams, marrying her and then discovering that Joanna is in fact, Joe.

May Gamma be like the most sublime wine, and yet in its prime, when it has faced the test of time.

Enough with the rhyme. ;)

I'm just looking forward to playing it when it's ready to play! Waited many years for this so a few more months won't do any harm :)

Ever since Frontier Elite 2 I've been fascinated by how games are made. To me, being a part of that process for the new Elite just seems like an opportunity not to be missed.

If I can help to make that first experience that someone else has of this game just a little bit better, then it's all worth it. Also, I just can't help myself :D

The mods are going to love this thread

My first time was in 1985. Elite, and a Spectrum and I fell madly in love with one another. Not your typical menage a trois but I have nothing but wonderful memories. :D This time around the computer doesn't have as much character but Elite Dangerous is looking gorgeous.

Carpe diem!

I am most looking forward to the point where there will not be a reset, so when the trading brings in wealth that you keep to build up your ship.

But it is still a lot of fun now.

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe... battle ships on fire, mating in Iota Cruxis. I've watched Port Zelada vanish, leaving clouds of gas rotating in space. All those moments will be lost, in time, like tears in the rain...

you may see Alpha as a fleeting relationship full of woe and heartache.

I see Alpha as a new born child that has been brought into this world, this child without guidance could end up something undesirable, instead us foster alpha parents are helping guide this child through its early stages of life. at the end of it all, I can say to this child, " we had our down moments and we had our up moments, but the journey we had together has shaped you into the man I see before me, make me proud son"

I've been the opposite of an elite virgin... and have already seen some of my mind babies in game, or at least some things that look very much like them! It's been a fantastic experience being in the DDF and alpha tests; however, I am kind of glad I don't have the same knowledge as the authors, since that would be a real peek behind the curtain

and that quote always brings tears to my eyes

+rep because the sentiment embedded is fact

;)

The testers of Alpha (and Beta) are pioneers, the vanguard of a formidable army of enthusiasts. These pioneers will disappear one day. They will transmit the torch to their children who in their turn will do the same with their children. All these glorious generations will disappear one after the other. And ED in all its glory, will survive the time which passes

Whatever you're smoking, please share! :)

What he said! :)

Helping and guiding during those first feeble steps. Watching the child grow strong and confident in its own right. Amen to that Mob! :)

Thank you kindly for reminding me why I avoided alpha testing. :)
