Liking the diamondback explorer..... (BUT)

So I am gearing up for an exploration mission, and so have mothballed my python and got the diamondback.

Its a nice ship considering its low end price, esp with A rated thrusters, can hold her own in a fight, (I am bored of sitting in my ASP so wanted a change)

BUT.....

I do wish there was a little more variation in the lacon ships internal dashboard wise. I am all for a stylistic consistency but I feel some of the assets are directly copied across between the T6, T7, (presumably) T9, the asp and now the Diamondback.

I guess this is down to dev time but would it really take long to reskin the dashboard sligjhtly differently for each of the ships, even if it was just 1 has the base metal finish, one has a plastic finish and one maybe has a wood effect finish ( ok maybe not that one ;) )

Also.... The BBC keyboard in the diamond back...... maybe this is not apparent playing on a monitor however in the rift it is very obvious that its placement makes no sense. This is only a visual thing obviously but the keyboard is miles away from the pilots seat, there is no way I would reach it to actually use it without getting out of my seat and walking over, unless it is on a mechanical arm which can swing it out to me some how?

I am exploring in a DBE. Its like a mini Asp, the cockpit is similar in its industrial design, but the selfies look better in a DBE than an Asp. The cockpit of both the Asp and the DBE do look like they have been chewed by a dog.

I love my DBX, but every single combat against NPCs for me is screaming at that ship to turn or to accelerate. And then a bit more screaming at the high wake cloud of that better than Expert NPC that just ran away.
If the DBX was just somewhat faster and a bit more maneuverable. At least it's slightly faster than a T-9 and an Anaconda :/

Not had the pleasure of the DBX yet but I do have an Asp and yes it is rather er basic utilitarian in appearance. Makes my Cobra look plush

Have you tried flying the Scout? Might not look as tough on paper or be quite the explorer but it's a lot of fun to fly, runs rings around any npc (and most player flown ships) and has decent firepower.

I haven’t got one of those yet either. are they different in terms of cockpit design or are they a clone of the DB:Ex?

(sorry I know I do bleat on about this, I just like to SEE differences in my ships and actual know I am in something new and shiny rather than just feel the differences).

The DBX does take lovely selfies I must admit, but for pure exploration I keep going back to the Asp. I can eke just that tiny bit more range out of it for a given set of modules, and that can make all the difference. The DBX does make a fantastic long-range bounty hunting ship, though.

Yes, I have the DBS and it's a nice ship, but why fly that ship if I can fly the Vulture.
I had hoped that the DBX would be a good combat oriented multipurpose ship - enough cargo room for missions and space for the usual stuff for combat. I can fit everything I want, but the moment I fight NPCs I want to be in an other ship. The DBX is so close to what I wanted :(

@Mad Mike: The cockpits of the DBX and DBS are identical (or I just don't see any difference).

Honestly with it's added weight and the same thruster's as it's smaller version were you surprised it handeled like a old truck? On the positive side it is the best smuggling ship yet, and it can fight decent in a pinch even though it's main functions are obviously light tradeing and exploration.

thanks.. I suspected as much.... With this in mind then I really hope FD do not stop at 30 in game ships then...... The argument that the DB Sc and the DB EX took just as much work to do as each other I just do not buy TBH (and if that is the case then why on earth not do a different one then?)... which is fine apart from we are running out of promised ships now esp as i guess the imperial eagle will be another of the 30 :(.

No, not surprised about the way it handles. I'm surprised that FD thought it would be a good idea to make a ship with that weapon set up and then cripple it with added weight that seem to be only there to cripple it. The Asp weights less…

The artificial weight addition was Frontier's only quick way to control Jump Range. Had they lowered weight, the DB Explorer would have easily exceeded the Asp's Jumprange.
Making a Ship heavier to achieve a specific performance parameter is a simple Integer value change. And as time was tight - that's what they did. A Ship that lands on a small pad - but clocking in at >400tons in full gear ;)

Probably true, even if they said it wasn't the case.
