Roller Coasters Limbo: The Ride

Hello,

I would like to share with you my newest coaster. Limbo: The Ride.

It's a coaster adventure based on the 2D game Limbo by Playdead.

This coaster comes with a custom soundtrack with added sound effects which you can download here. I recommend you to disable sound effects and put music on 100% (I noticed that coaster sound effects are pretty loud compared to coaster music):

Really curious what you people think of it, because it took me quite some time and I'm pretty happy with the result ;)

Awesome!!!
I loved that game!!!

You're dark ride captures it very well.

A small "complaint"... I wish there was some small suggestion as to the rides movement in the pitch black parts. I know it would be different in "real life" because we wouldn't need to see it, we could feel it. This did start happening towards the end with the arrows, and saws.

[heart]

Thanks!

Yes, I know those pitch black parts are a bit boring and maybe a bit confusing, but I just couldn't find a way that I could properly connect the scenes without breaking the black and white theme I got going. I've tried a lot, but I just didn't saw a nice way and at some point I just said: "Enough, it's finished and I'm happy with it" Which i absolutely am even though there are already so many things I want to change or add ;) You might recognize that feeling :p

I thought that was quite cool. I'll have to get that! (I know nothing of this game but it looks quite creepy, like "Calvin and Hobbes Go to ❤︎❤︎❤︎❤︎").

BTW, I didn't see much in the way of pitch-blackness. Just a split second or so, then you'd see the kid's eyes in the distance, moving strangely before the next scene lit up.

I don't know the game, but it feels like the Winnie the Pooh ride had a nightmare... so, probably perfect :) very nice, I agree re the dark gaps, a couple of tiny visible dots to give the impression of movement would help. The storyboard feel is very good albeit rather grim!

I am always conflicted on this. As an actual coaster enthusiast moments of true black are some of the most exciting known to man, but they just do not make for good footage lol.

Ie

NO ONE wants to watch a video of Boulder Dash at night.

EVERYONE! wants to ride Boulder Dash at night.

Anyways project looks great, very original.

The best coasters are those where you have no idea how they are made. This is easily one of them! Limbo as a game is very inspiring and so is your coaster. One of the best things I've seen in this game so far [up]

Wow, thanks for the amazing comments.
I added a "Behind the Scenes" workshop on the main post of this thread, it's exactly the same as the other one, but without the terrain covering the whole ride so you can actually see what's going on ;)

Yep, hats off + round of applause.

Any homage to Limbo cannot mess around, and you certainly have not messed around here. As I watched I thought perhaps you were mixing planet coaster footage with some other graphics, but it's all in PC so well done.

Have you seen their latest game called "Inside"? It takes things to the next level after Limbo. They've gone full 3D, while keeping the side-scrolling style. The atmosphere and environments are rich, surreal and dreamy. Colours and rendering are sublime, the narrative is violent at times, but the details are a masterclass in rendering and design. The way they blend background atmospherics with foreground narrative is unique and surprising.

Thanks! Yes, Inside was amazing as well, bought it as soon as it was available a year after the first trailer release, waited so long :p
Limbo's artstyle just really lend itself to do this coaster though

Brilliant work! I have played LIMBO and I recognise the style. You've done a great job! [up]

I saw this featured on Channel5 Gaming's youtube channel, and I have to say it's a cracking piece of work. Such a unique idea, well done!

Thanks! I love Channel5 Gaming's videos. He takes a lot of workshop items and shows them to the greater public, which is awesome
