limit range on larger powered weapons

limit range on larger powered weapons... or the longer the 'shot' the weaker the laser.
combat is becoming more a distance fight and winners are 90% of the time based on biggest /mostpowerful weapons .. NOT,as it should be,in my option, on the skills of pilots..
.

In which game do you play against these long range lasers :D? Whenever I go fighting with people, all I see are TLB APAs, rails and missiles.

Long range beams run way too hot to be a threat in PVP imo, whenever I see someone trying one of those PVE laser builds on me, I just raise their heat % and smell the bacon.

They forgot “Thermal Vent” on the beams then.

Yep, as I said PVE laser builds xD

Thermal vents at long range would also be quite easy to dodge with fa off / if gimballed, chaff. They get amazingly hot when missing :D

This is the way most non-long range weapons work.

I do agree that the long range mod has helped significantly increase engagement range and somewhat reduce the value of maneuver, which leads to less enjoyable combat though.

The distributor draw is far more of an issue than the heat. Long range beams have poor DPE except at long range, but thermal vent makes their heat an asset rather than a liability.

No one with any sense runs gimbals on their long range lasers, or holds down the trigger when the shots aren't landing.

Also, thermal load on thermal vent is the same as an unmodded beam and doesn't increase when missing.

Yes, it has become quite boring with them omnipresent plasmas and rails. It's not even the weapons themselves that are the problem... but those speciel effects like TLB, dispersal field and feedback cascade are long overdue for a balance pass.

You can’t dodge something that is instantaneous. The beams will hit you instantly when the pilot pulls the trigger. There is no travel time. What you mean to say is that you hope your enemy isn’t a good shot.

Imo, if you move so that your ship is not in your opponents sights anymore and he has to adjust his aim, it can still be called dodging. I can start calling it evasion, avoidance or elusion instead if that makes it clearer :p

Gimballed TV beams are also quite common in ships that have their hardpoints scattered over a wider area and can't hit the same spot if fitting all fixed weaponry.
