Limit Theory Inspiration Scanner 2.0

I was just watching the February Dev Diary for Limit Theory while I wait for all these awesome new space games to come out. Anyways the scanner 2.0 work Josh has done in LT is IMO amazing. Part of being a good game developer is to play all these games and take the good from the bad and even try and improve on them. So with that said I felt some of the scanner work Josh has been doing over on LT is worth looking at for Elite.

Is it just me or would a simular scanner system look and feel perfect for Elite? Josh's first attempt at an Ice Field also looks amazing but I'll let you decide for yourselves. Anyways I think it's healthy to look at all these games and like movies it's easy to get some good ideas for stuff coming down the pipes. I'm thinking in a game as big as Elite a good scanner system would make exploration and scouting a bit more interesting.

I like the newest version of the scanner. The one that presented itself as a circle in the middle of the screen was a nice idea but not well presented. The chart along the bottom is much nicer.

Agreed - Josh never fails to impress. He'll come up with one idea that is already novel and interesting, take on board comments, and next month present a better version that goes to a whole new level. Seriously talented.

That thing looks very cool :). The thing is that it's very raw data; the ship's computer would be able to process it much more easily than we could. What he's got is like a JPEG where you are just given RGB values! I do similar spectral analysis as part of my job, and I would be laughed out of the room if I interpreted it by eye :D
