Proposal Discussion Limited Edition Tee Shirts

How about a set of tee shirts that say something about our support for the development of ED, but only for those in the know?

  1. Alpha backers get a tee with just Zelanda on it,
  2. Premium Beta backers have the limited 5 star system map,
  3. Beta backers have the current 55 star system map, and
  4. Gamma backers get the milky way.

As the FD store knows at what level we joined the game only the alpha backers would be able to purchase the Zelanda tee, P-Beta backers the 5 star system tee, and so on and so forth.

As an attendee of both LaveCon and FantasiCon this year I was thinking that it would be nice to have something to remember these times. Next year, when the game is (hopefully) released, the conventions will grow. They'll need to, Allen posted that LaveCon didn't make a profit, and Dan wasn't sure that FantasiCon had when I spoke to him about it during the break down.

And with the conventions being larger we will lose something - the intimacy. I happily left thousands of pounds of equipment just lying around. And I wasn't the only one. So it would be nice to have something to remember those times, and allow us, at the various meet ups, to quickly identify ourselves, and reminisce about the good old days, when fuel was free, jump ranges unlimited, and you learnt to bounce off the shields of the AIs that parked just inside the entrance to get a better line to the pads close to the front.

how about one with the ED logo on the front and the words 'i backed elite dangerous' on the back? ;)

Why not just give every backer the same shirt.... is this a Jimmy measuring contest?

Because it only says you're a backer to those in the know. Andy's suggestion would make them very much a Jimmy measuring contest. And I am not blind to the fact that anything that is limited in this way does carry that risk. But that is not my intent here. This is about those of us that where here at the start being able to find each other when the community is dominated by those that bought the game post release.

I don't know about anyone else but none of the Alpha backers I've talked to haven shoved the fact that they back the game before me down my throat. I've seen a little of it in these forums, but not at the conventions. It's been about our stories, about how we first played Elite and why we got involved with ED. I don't want to loose that.

It was very evident to me at both LaveCon and FantasiCon that the vast majority of people were 30 something and upwards. I'm not saying there weren't younger people there; I meet James at both events. But anyone under 30 stood out as a sore thumb.

That is going to change. In a few short months we backers are going to be out number by the kids that get the game for Christmas. At future events we're going to be in the minority; at least I hope we are - I want to see over 500 people at the cons next year - it's good for the future of the game. So I want something that allows me to spot those of us that were there at the start. The flag that tells me that I can walk over and start a conversation with: "So why did you buy into Elite in..."

yea sorry you missed the joke, backers have already had the oportunity to buy the t-shirt i described, i'm wearing mine now :)

some were sold via the shop and have all been sent out, others are still to be delivered as they are part of the premium box set reward from the kickstarter.

Now you mention it I think I remember seeing them. But for me those are too overt. It like in the game, I love all those little touches that nod back to the original. If you don't know what the BBC keyboard was like (and I never owned one so it had slipped my mind until someone pointed it out) it's a nice touch, if you don't it doesn't detract.
