Limited Funds: Monitors v Flight Stick v Tracker

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but searching for any of these terms gives an avalanche of posts.

Currently playing with single 23" 1080p monitor and XBox 360 controller. I also have Voice Attack, but do not currently use it.

Just looking for help in choosing what to buy to help boost the playing experience.

With all the great setup, just wondering which ones people got the most from.

(e.g moving to triple monitor setup, or buying stick/throttle or trackir)

I don't have a budget as yet, but it would be nice to get an idea of priorities.

I'm down at LaveCon this weekend, so hopefully I will get a better idea then, but any comments in the meantime would, as always, be appreciated.

Thanks for reading everybody (TM Crate & Crowbar)

I am playing on 24 monitor and I do not really struggle about it as with Track IR i can look around so it also helps and it will reduce your need for 3 monitor setup :)
I would go in this order:
1) proper flight stick / hotas would be even better
2) head tracking
3) monitors

As all the others have said; wait till after Lavecon and you've tried out the trackers and HOTAS.

Personally, the HOTAS has made the single biggest improvement for my sim-type gaming.

A good tracker can be had for very little money: http://www.edtracker.org.uk/

If you're no good with a soldering iron, you can contact Brumster and Pocketmoon here on the forums and ask them for an assembled unit. It's a bit more expensive then, but still extremely cost efficient.

So the question really is monitor vs flight stick :p

Most definitely HOTAS > TrackIR / Other head tracking > Screens

It sounds counter intuitive but 3 screens with head tracking is odd, because if you turn your head to view something on either screen, your view will change and you'll probably be looking almost behind you.

dabs had some real good deals on ex display 28 in monitors tother day they were around £120
as for controls the black widow is a great budjet choice at aroun£25 I prefer it to the thrustmaster x at around £45 not that theres a lot in it

havnt tries voice attack or tracker yet as im still learning the art of crashing gracefully
hope this helps

Id wait until the game is released before spending anything on it. For a general upgrade, id go for monitor first because you use it for everything you do with your pc. Its the main out put device. A good monitor improves everything you do. A second moniot increase fun and productivity massively.

Stick, definitely. A HOTAS system if you can afford it.

I know I keep saying this, but if you are patient start hunting for CH HOTAS stuff on e-bay

I would choose
Flightstick t-flight hotas x-> Edtracker or FTnoiR -> Monitors

also do not forget you need a good grah#phics card that can display to 3 monitors

I would echo what's been said.

1) HOTAS/decent stick
2) Tracking
3) Multi-monitor setup

I'm looking forward to trying OR at Lavecon too, just to see what "all this OR malarky is all about" ;)

Really appreciate all the help and suggestions.

General consensus seems to be Flight stick, then tracker, then monitors. Although bargains can't be passed by, should some inexpensive monitors wantonly wander past.

I'll certainly take a look at the ED Tracker from Brumster et al when I'm down at LaveCon

I'm no good with a soldering iron, so I think a home-brew ED Tracker is beyond me. I hadn't heard about the FaceTrackNoir software before, so I'll definitely give that a look as well.

Thanks to everyone except Barry - I think he's just showing off :p (I'm not bitter, just really, really jealous)

I appreciate you all taking the time to make your suggestions.

I use Keyboard + Mouse + TrackIR and love it.

I have a joystick here now but prefer the convenience of the keyboard and mouse. TrackIR is better than multimonitors imo because you can look up.

I consider TrackIR an essential purchase and if I were to play without it now it would feel very limited.
