Limited Funds: Monitors v Flight Stick v Tracker

I'd look for a used stick. I got a X52 for $40, old but barely used. Did the magnet mod for linearity, also CA glued where the shaft enters the handle and now it's more precise than The pro and has no play at all.

I didn't like the soft spring till I removed the extra play which is there because the metal shaft only goes about 1 inch into the plastic handle and is held in place by a 2mm pin. Hence the superglue.

I's also recommend the EDTracker you can purchase prebuilt and flashed for 25 pounds. Previously I had a PS3eye and a home made ir clip. ED is much more smoother and precise, even with the camera running at 120+ fps. It also leaves your desk less cluttered because there is no need for a camera or antenna like IR clip. Just a little box smaller than a matchbox.

Monitors, it's up to you really. I'd probably put that last on my list since I have a 32inch and barely have the gpu to run the game effectively on it.

With all the great setup, just wondering which ones people got the most from.

(e.g moving to triple monitor setup, or buying stick/throttle or trackir)

I don't have a budget as yet, but it would be nice to get an idea of priorities.

To play the game with 3 monitors, you'll need a powerful computer. My AMD R9 290 rarely reaches 60 fps in 5760x1080 pixels. TrackIR is definitely a must have on a single monitor but the very first thing you need is a HOTAS, so I'd go for this :

1) Saitek X22 (relatively cheap and does the job)

2) Track IR

3) 1 x 27" monitor (Alternatively, you could go for a triple display but be prepared to upgrade your rig. Depending on your current GPU, this can be *very* expensive)

Yet another
  1. HOTAS
  2. Head tracking, I use TrackIR, though it may be worth checking out alternatives such as EDtrack. OR looks interesting but I'm not buying in until the 1st or 2nd commercial release
  3. Monitor. I'm comfortable with a single large monitor (30"). Triple sounds interesting but not with QR commercial releases down the road.

Many thanks to everyone for their suggestions.

Met Brumster et al at LaveCon and I'm now the proud owner of an EDTracker.
(Never realised just how clever that name was until I got home last night)

After speaking to the many helpful commanders down there, next thing on my list is a Thrustmaster T-Flight Hotas X. There were a few on show and the only downside appears to be the lack of buttons, which with Voice Attack may not be a problem.

Also, if I outgrow it or (unlikely though it is) go off ED, it's only £40 or so and therefore not a huge amount wasted.
