Limpet Lobotomy

As it was the limpet was about the dumbest thing in the known galaxy. FDEV has managed some type of miracle and made it a LOT dumber.

It seems half the time it suicides on your ship when you launch a prospector, Unless you are going dead slow and hold course it will destruct on the nose of your ship.

I thought these things were fast but I can pass one with my cargo bay open in a python..Crazy.

Then nothing more fun then watching 6 or so of these lemmings die one after another because a resource chunk is too close to the asteroid, they will grab it then decide to head into the asteroid and die, the sequence then continues until insanity proves once again that doing the same thing over and over again while expecting a different result.

Would it be that hard to make them speedier like they were before the update and then at least give em the intelligence of a gnat so they know to go left instead of right into the asteroid !

At least let us know you know there is problem and are working on a solution, this is insane !!

Thank you

So you have a minion which is willing to fetch anything you desire no matter the danger or cost, who will gladly sacrifice itself on your command and you insult the little miracle.

They may not be the brightest but they are loyal and should be admired.

All hail the limpet!.

I have found moving my ship to the right location vastly improves the survivability of the limpets. Little things like orientating the ship so that ledge the limpets are crashing into is now a 'floor' since the normal behaviour of the limpet is to pickup the fragment then boost directly 'up' then reverse course. Also if I see a fragment that is too close to the asteroid I will nudge it with my ship to put it in clear space. But the best trick I discovered is not to have too many limpets out at once, it is too easy to lose track of them then wonder why they are all destroying themselves on the same fragment. Hence I now only carry a single size 5 collector and even then it is rare that I have all 3 limpets active at once, I find two is sufficient if you move closer to the fragments.

Limpets need an overhaul in my opinion. They shouldn't self destruct when collecting a targeted material, and shouldn't be so weak/dumb that they suicide on asteroids and your own ship. I think we also need the optiok of a universal limpet controller to cut down on module space requirements, and make limpets either an ammo-based thing, or increase how many are created with synthesis.

I am for a universal limpet controller also but I think FDEV are not. having separate ones make you have to make choices. especially with smaller ships. Ships like Vette can have it all but may have a harder time finding a way in the cracked roid to get all the resources.

Part of my comment is that they seemed to have slowed the limpets/prospectors down and that is why they die so easy on a launch. I never used to be to pass them after launch no I can do it with cargo door open.

Right now it seems just like another QOL issue they made worse. I do like the new mining though, it pays well and you have several paths that all semm profitable.. good job there.
