Limpet synthesis recipe

This makes 400 limpets? But my Cobra only has 20 cargo slots total...

Can this recipe be changed to level 2 and a new recipe created for level 1 that lets you make 40 for 1 iron and 1 nickel? Or something?

400? What? I never even had 400t cargo space, let alone 400 limpets. Yeah, a 40 limpet synthesis would be appreciated.

Shush! Don't let the devs see! And let the miners rejoice!

It's not supposed to be this way? I didn't play the beta, so I didn't know.

I mean, it seems reasonable for the amount of materials. The only unreasonable part is why aren't there lower tiers that use less mats and give less limpets?

I believe the amount was actually 4 in the Beta. The idea is that miners are not meant to self sufficient. Explorers can synthesize a few to repair their hull, but that's about it.

But 400 robots all for twenty space rocks? Yeah, that's not reasonable.

Its four in live, seems a typo.
Ah.. I didn't actually try the recipe because I thought it would just be a massive waste.

I'll grant that 400 was maybe a bit much considering each material you loot is actually 3 pieces, but 4 just seems too low for the price. At that point, I guess explorers are the only people who would even use the recipe. Wouldn't be worth it for a fuel rat to make fuel limpets on the fly and wouldn't even be worth it for a pirate to make collector limpets on the fly.

...and I'd wager most explorers would rather be careful than put up with the extra weight of a limpet controller. Plus I don't have any room for one on my Asp, DBX or Orca, so the only ship I would even consider using one on is the Anaconda.

I think this is the larger issue: no one that needs limpet synthesis has room for either the controller or cargo rack. And you been both to use fuel transfer or hull repair limpets.

And I'll be the stickler saying that we may not have artificial gravity, but we can create 4 tons of advanced space machinary from stuff we carry in our pockets. Or 400.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I've been parked up at Colonia since I pancaked on a moon returning from SagA.
My enthusiasm to head back out was knocked until I heard about the repair limpets.
Now I hear that I'll have trouble finding room in my AspX for a cargo rack and the controller. What should I throw out? My vehicle bay? My AMFU? My ADS?
Why isn't the controller fitted to one of the utility mounts instead of internally?

Ah well, back to Fallout 4 until someone with more patience than I can come up with a new workable explorer build.

4 limpets for 10 each of iron and nickel works out at about 7% replacement, so you are quite correct that it was never intended to even come close to replacing all the limpets used when mining. Even 40 limpets for the 20 mats would only replace 70% of the limpets used to get the materials and ores.

If you really insist on needing both AFMU and repair limpets, plus you want ADS, DSS, SRV, scoop and shields, you'll need 8 internals. That means Cobra mk4, Python, Beluga, Corvette, Conda, Clipper or Cutter. Or just dump the AFMU, its not like you cant repair your modules at the 'highway stations'. :)

Slowly the Asp is finally losing its ability to fit everything, which means people will start having diverse and interesting choices to make. More fun (to me) than the old days of 'scoop+scanners=go'. :p

I had this dilemma last night when I decided to return to the bubble from Colonia in my AspX. I thought about dropping my shields, but decided to forgo the repair limpets. Will use them on a ship with more internals.

Limpet synthesis will mainly used by deep space explorers for hull repairs, I would suspect, where cargo space would be small
