There is one major difference. Derek isn't weighed down by dubious pre-order promises to the order of $124 million dollars so it's far easier for him to adapt.
Actually there are several major differences:
1)CR has released a multitude of games that were well received, sold well, and most importantly they worked.
2)Derek has released 1 game albeit under duress(Battlecruiser 3000AD) and over the last 25yrs has changed the name 16 times trying to sell patches as "new games".
3)CR has been successful,Derek has not.
4)People are actually buying Star Citizen,Derek can't even give away codes for LoD for free even if he begs people to play it.
5)You can find more players in 1 instance of SC on any given day than you can find playing LoD in 2 months.
6)CR praises other space sim developers even makes front page posts encouraging SC backers to check these other games out,Derek on the other hand claims every other game is inferior to his own and that whatever they achieve he's already done it years ago.
Regardless this thread is not for discussing SC it is for discussing LoD so stay on topic and quit attempting to derail.
Now back to LoD:
This was supposed to release in 2012 as Derek was quoted in multiple interviews even after he factored in his "engine change" which he said would set him back approximately 4 months,it's now late 2016 and the "game" is barely functional and some are non existent such as AI with the Bots just stuck in a modified T-Pose, Of course Derek claims that "it's all there but its just locked" just as he did back in the day with his "neural net AI" extensive code digging afterwards showed that there never was any "neural net AI".If Derek put even half the effort into developing his "game" as he does with attacking and accusing CIG of one thing or the other then maybe just maybe this game might be in better shape.
In a recent Podcast he claimed that LoD has cost $12,000,000 and that by the end it might rise to $14,000,000 take a look at any recent LoD play/review video and ask yourself does this look like over $10,000,000 well spent,he has claimed at various points to be worth over $200,000,000 and yet he either can't afford/provides excuses as to why to one of his server clusters back online that has been down for months now. This is a pattern that has repeated itself since Battlecruiser 3000AD:
1)Derek says he's making a game, he makes grandiose promises as to what will be in his game and how amazing it will be.
2)As time goes on what is released is broken and unplayable,Derek promises to fix X,Y,Z or just says everything is working as intended and there's nothing wrong with his game your just either not playing it right, are too stupid to understand it,haven't read the manual etc etc.
3)His "games" always run 4-5yrs late and are still broken and unfunctional before he moves on to his "new game"
Somebody in a attempt to defend Derek earlier said "you don't have to be a mechanic to know that if your car isn't handling right then the mechanic should look at the suspension or the tires" except that excuse doesn't fly because most people don't go into a garage yelling at the top of their voice that they are a expert on cars and then call the mechanic a idiot or a cultist when they point out via evidence that your wrong.Derek claims he is a developer,Derek claims he has experience at GameDev which he uses to try and assert that his opinion carries weight when somebody takes 5 minutes to use Google and look at his "games" and points out that based on his "games" he doesn't have a clue what he's talking about he yells that they are a cultist/ izen/shillizen etc.
Then there was his "Most of the negative reviews of LoD were izens review bombing my game" this despite that fact that the majority of the 170+negative reviews occurred months before his tirrade against SC via his "Blogs" and this is not the first time he's claimed that negative reviews of his games are "review bombing".
Line of Defense is :
1)4yrs late
2)most of what he claimed would be in is either not there or "locked for testing".
3)What is accessible is broken and barely functional so much that it makes Candy Crush look like a AAA Game.
4)His Change log is 85% Wishlist, 5% what is "in the game" and 10% maybe it's there but locked maybe it isn't.
LoD appears to be in the same state as the other title called Alganon he and his "expertise" were brought in to fix, hint its dead as a Dodo what both LoD and Alganon show is why the industry ignores Derek and does not entrust him with any of their IP's he simply can't do GameDev and whenever he tries he just makes a mess of it.But back to LoD and the $12,000,000 he's spent on it, If he coded it himself well then that doesn't say much for his ability and if he sub contracted it out to Freelancers and other company well those people are laughing all the way to the bank and back because Dear Derek has been taken for a ride.
