List of non-fun activities in ED

This is my list of non-fun activities in ED:

  • Accept delivery mission, fly 50KLs for station, get destination changed message, fly to new destination and discover mission board is gone and goods cannot be delivered ¤%&"#¤"!
  • Chase 25 Modular Terminals and get them drip-wise in batches of 4
  • Gathering commodities and being chased by pirates and then having to run or risk losing set Modular Terminals, and whatnot. And forget about CNB visits with cargo
  • Waiting for my shields to recharge, jeez
  • Seeing a gazillion new commodities & materials, do we really need 99 different kinds of wake scan data, really? come on guys
  • Permit Acquisition Opportunities that amounts to, wait for it, absolutely nothing
  • Watching faces of severely sleep deprived zombie faction contacts. Actually some of them freaks me out (I know they are zombies)
  • Pressing "Do you really want sell that Shield Booster?" buttons
  • Losing the route in GalMap, yes it still happens
  • Watching incomprehensible data at the Engineers, "Will my ship jump longer?" "I don't know, but your optimized mass is 17% larger now!"

I think this was it for now, thanks for reading :)

Waiting for your shields to recharge is indeed terrible.
They should of course never go down at all.

In that same vein you should also add:
- Having to shoot at enemies multiple times. Why can't they just die in one shot?
- Flying through space. Why not add instant travel?
- Having to refuel all the time. It is totally pointless.
- Having to repair damage. It's a game why do ships get damaged at all?
- Having to pay insurance. Why can't we get free ships? In fact we should all get an Anaconda right from the start.
- Space is too large and there's too much empty space in it. Just fill it up with something like cookies or icecream.

My far my #1 "non fun" activity is moving my 25+ ships to a new home base closer to engineer systems. No other activity compares to this level of tedium. It's up there with household chores

Mining
Trading without a 3rd party tool
Trading with a 3rd party tool
Exploring
SRV driving on the surface to shoot at rocks.

Uhhh yeah...

Waiting for the patch to download and then seeing it fail and restart...literally the only thing that has induced true rage from Elite Dangerous.

my list is

#1 reading other people's lists

Fortunately, easily remedied ;)

This is my list

  • The wife complaining Ive been playing to long

Since ED, I've had to make changes to remedy that.

Indeed :D

A monumental task indeed, and then the moving part is actually the smallest part of it.

Don't get mad, get even. I find it works to take it out on the NPC's...

Uhhh yeah...

I somehow sense you don't like trading?

I do find this a truly bizarre thing - surely i could pay someone to move my ships for me? or (providing my ship has a docking computer) get the ship to fly itself a few systems at a time? I spend enough time in supercruise and jumping huge distances, surely moving my ships to a central place isn't too much to ask?

I don't find there to be any unfun activities. I do one until I get tired of it and then I go do something else. Kind of like life. :)

The bugs however are tiresome. Particularly the "New timeframe for mission: you have 0 minutes to get it to us for a bonus" one. And the one that makes the station services screen freeze up occasionally.

Then don't do it. Sheesh. You're like someone punching themselves in the face saying....."I hate how much this hurts". Makes no sense.

Mildly satisfying activities in ED:

Looking at the starmap and discovering just how far out of my way the new destination (that I never agreed to) is, my anger drives me to draw a line in sand: I've done the mission I agreed to do, so our business is concluded. You scum want to scam me out of my time without prior negotiation? Nope. Mission: Cancel.

How do you like that? Huh? How do you like it when someone upholds their end of the deal instead of being suckered into your scam?

Oh... you refuse to accept your allegedly "irreplaceable" cargo at the port that you agreed to accept it at? Well looky there, the port has a black market. Guess I'm just going to have to offload your priceless garbage for a few bucks and change to some mook who will probably use it as packing material for a booze shipment. Do you like that?

Oh... you're going to fine me...? Good luck. I'm far to busy to ever be back in your worthless system before the time limitations expire.

Ugh. Yeah, I'm probably going to ignore delivery missions in future unless they're similarly from factions that have nothing over me.
The mission system should really add an extra warning if this is a possibility:

! Hostile ships may be sent against you

! Destination subject to last-minute update

That way we can avoid these flakes and only do business with people who are serious.

Reputation should go both ways - I'll work with factions that I've learned act with basic professionalism, and I'll blacklist the flakes who can't stick to their own story. But I assume the mission system doesn't have that level of fidelity - I assume all factions can generate flake missions, so until they're marked, no more deliveries for anyone.

Either/and: any new destination should be a bonus payout option - with the original agreed destination still valid at original price.

- Finally acquiring some hard to get commodities for an engi upgrade, then realizing you're still missing a couple of mats, and then realizing that those mats are most easily found in RES sites ... except you now can't go to a RES site without being ganged up on by *everything* because they want your cargo. That same cargo you hunted for for ages and don't want to eject. We REALLY REALLY ***REALLY*** need some sort of storage solution other than 'make sure your ship has enough cargo to hold it'.

This is a thread that asks to list non fun activities. I listed my #1. Sometimes keeping your ships in on station has massive benefits and ship transfer has been a major ask for some time. Your tone is indicative of the typical forum hostility people complain about.

I haven't run into an "un-fun" activity yet. There are some that I think could stand to be improved, but none that are unfun. But I'm weird that way, so there's that to consider, too.

Maybe this is Captain Obvious, but AFAIK there are no mats in a REZ that you can't just as easily get elsewhere. REZ mainly just means higher NPC spawn rates, so if you desire a more throttled spawn rate to avoid things becoming a pile-on while you do your thing (scavenge ship debris I assume), work outside of REZ.
