List of other Oculus/Vive Games that are good (v2)

In ode to the previous thread about which games are good, I think it's time to make a new one as the old one is now full of redundant information. What other games are you guys playing on the Rift?

Here's my current list:

Elite

Elite is at the moment by far the best rift game I own. It's a new game in VR, it's a game BUILT for VR, and with the CV1, it's so much better than before. The scale is much better now, it feels huge, and the new clarity of the CV1 is excellent. I've found an amazing GUI profile, that alleviates the godrays (esp if you turn HUD brightness down), isn't as harsh and oversaturated as the default, and doesn't touch the avatars:

See more here (most are included in EDProfiler)

Project Cars
Second best game I own in VR. It is amazing, you never felt speed like this unless you actually have raced F1, or any of the other amazing motor sports in the game. In fact, the buggies feel mentally fast. Overwhelming

Subnautica
Only given it a test run but it's looking GORGEOUS in VR. Can't wait to delve into it.

EVE Valkyrie
Will be playing this when I can figure out how to rebind the controls to match Elite. Looks like some good arcadey fun.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Just bought this and can't wait to try it

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

Made for VR now, looking forward to trying this. EDIT: Tried it, jaw dropping GORGEOUS on the rift. And works perfectly interface-wise

VorpX Games
Skyrim looks amazing, probably the best environment in VR. Shame the headtracking is SO bad at the moment. Not sure if it's me, or just the way it is coded. VorpX isn't that great tbh.

Well that's it. What other games are working great for you?

I think on release, Eve:Valkyrie had only gamepad support but now supports HOTAS etc - anything going through DirectInput.

https://forums.evevalkyrie.com/t/official-vr-hardware/922
has links to the rebinding instructions.

I'll be downloading the game tonight, so will give it a go. I use a Thrustmaster Warthog HOTAS.

Project:Cars is definitely on my list - especially as its on special right now in the Oculus Store.
I want to specifically try out the Caterham and see if it feels anything like my Birkin does in real life. Not sure if the Caterham is in the standard car set though?

The Solus Project
First person scifi survival game. Fantastic graphics (with AA that actually works), dense atmosphere and really good use of the Vive's controllers. Don't know about the Rift, but roomVR with the Vive is awesome in this one. Only played it for a while yet, so I can't say much about story, length, etc.

HordeZ(Vive only)
Just a simple little zombie rail shooter, but boy, it really gets intensely scary in VR! Good price fir the fun, too.

I purchased Alien Isolation for a handful of bucks. Cant wait to explore the Alien universe in VR.

So far i played Elite Dangerous, Project CARS and Farlands, three games which are absolutely fantastic with the CV1. I plan to take a look at Subnautica, Solus Project and Pollen as well.

Unless you have your heart set on the GOTY, the normal version of Project Cars is much cheaper on Steam. Works fine with the Oculus from there. GOTY is same price there.
My problem is I use the Xbox controller for EVE, but it won't detect it as a controller for rebinding. I'm sure they'll fix that eventually.

Alien Isolation isn't going to work with the CV1, sorry to say. Can get it working with Vorpx but that really isn't very good.

For the Vive:

The Brookhaven experience
Everest VR (once its out)
The Blu
Spell Fighter (simple, no real story, but surprisingly fun to play in roomscale!)

Then hopefully, we see a workaround soon. This closed up politics they follow with the CV1 is not, what i was expecting after seeing everything working fine with the DK2. The Alien Isolation developers even advertised on Youtube, how great and scary their game is with the Rift. I bet the surprise wasnt pleasent for them as well.

For VIVE:
Space Pirate Trainer
Pool Nation
The Lab
BLARP!
Vanishing Realms
Windlands

Experiences not games:
Irrational Exuberance
NoLimits 2

War thunder (simulation mode)... really, dogfighting online in a ww2 fighter with the rift is simle amazing, also the game is nicely optimized and it runs smoothly.

About project cars.. i couldn't find the sweet point between performance and eye candy... i prefer to play it in a monitor.

Adrift looks georgeous too.. but i have a lot of motion sickness with this.

Technolust is pretty good. http://store.steampowered.com/app/379670/ On sale at the moment too.

It's not AAA quality but to be honest that's part of it's charm. It's got a real great retro straight to video sci-fi film vibe about it, you almost expect Rutger Hauer or Christopher Lambert to make an appearance. It's chock full of lovely little references to sci-fi films, TV programs and books etc from the 80's and 90's. There's also a lot of varied gameplay types in there too. It totally nails that grungy early William Gibson cyberpunk feel. One of the best VR games I've played so far purely because it tries to do so much different stuff with VR, unlike a lot of the other games which are very one note. Oh and most importantly it's fun.

On the flip side, DO NOT BUY "Into The Dead" on the Oculus store, even for the current reduced price of £3.50 you'll feel like you've paid too much. Basically it's a zombie runner game where you steer left or right to avoid the zombies as your character sprints forwards. There's pick ups and stuff but it's rubbish. The controls don't even seem to work properly, and this is in a game where you just move left or right. For instance sometimes you can move very fast to the right but hardly at all to the left and visa versa. Also you can buy a head start with points you earn in game, but half the time it zooms you right into the waiting arms of a zombie, so instant fail. There's a little mini arcade game in Technolust that's like this, where you fly between cyber skyscrapers and it is loads more fun than this crap, and that's just a little side diversion and I've already spent more time on it than Into the Dead.

Edit: Oh yes, also if you like speed, then check out Vector 36. http://store.steampowered.com/app/346460/ Also on sale right now.

It's a land skimmer racing sim. The sense of speed is really good, better than Project Cars I thought and for me personally more fun too. The perfect marriage of racing and space sim games. The flying and tinkering in the garage have enough depth to keep you coming back to it. It's certainly not a quick arcade style game. It can be a little bit buggy right now though as its early access and I've had the odd crash here after an hour or mores play.

Had war thunder for ages, going to give it a try now that you've said that :) Going to delay getting Adrift - I have enough space games atm

Technolust...I guessed from the name that it was some music move to the beat type game, it actually looks amazing and I'll get it next time I am going to spend some money on games thanks!
I did buy Into the Dead, haven't played it and now I don't think I will lol

Vector 36 looks amazing too :)

My favourites have to be (for the Vive):

Battle Dome - Seriously. The game doesn't look any prettier than the screenshots do which is to say it looks pretty horrible - but the gameplay experience more than makes up for it. This is the best multiplayer "FPS" type of game for VR right now. It's far better than Hover Junkers (which isn't a bad game either. Just suffers from the misfortune of not being Battle Dome)

Like with Hover Junkers, calling it an FPS doesn't quite do it justice, this is an entirely new type of game that only VR makes possible. With the motion controllers it has as much in common with the old light gun shooters (Operation Wolf, Space Gun, Virtua Cop etc.) and with RL toy gun games like Laser Tag and Paintball as with regular FPS.

I was skeptical of the teleportation mechanic, like no way that could be fun in a multiplayer game but it felt completely natural after a few minutes (maybe I'm just used to all the Tracers blinking around in Overwatch by now!)

Utilises roomscale in a great way. If you position yourself right before teleporting your roomspace next to a corner, you can not only use the corner as a cover to shoot opponents from behind, you can walk along the wall to the next corner and then shoot at baddies at the other direction. :)

Physically crouching to use low walls as cover pretty much passes for a workout routine.

One of the highlights for me was crouching behind a wall, then hearing an enemy on the other side shooting at my teammates, then stretching and reaching over the wall with my gun and shooting the guy on the back of his head from above!

The Lab - Valve's free minigame collection is the best tech demo for the Vive you can get and a couple of those games (Longbow and Xortex) are addictive and I keep coming back to them.

Holopoint - arcadeish roomscale archery game with bow mechanics that resemble Longbow. (As in you have to actually physically get an arrow from behind your back, nock it and draw before releasing) Although the graphics / presentation is more barebones than Longbow I actually prefer Holopoint because of its more physical nature - instead of just shooting at targets in front and below of you, you have to dodge them and their bullets too and the enemies come from EVERYWHERE around you in 360 degrees and even above! I prefer this over other arcade wave shooters including SPT, nothing else is quite as intense. Those samurai can give you real scare when they start appearing. :p

Waltz of the Wizard - Not really a game per se, but it's a really cool & atmospheric demo of what adventuring and exploring in a (literally) magical environment can be. It's completely free too.

House of the Dying Sun - this is a pretty cool arcade type space shooter that reminds me of the X-Wing / TIE Fighter series. The campaign is a bit on the short side but its austere but beautiful aesthetic works well in VR and it's just fun to run over the traitor lords' escape pods you know.

If you do manage to get it working on the Rift, don't forget the sick bucket
This was the only game that turned my stomach inside out (dk2) [wacky] and my head still didn't feel right the whole of the day after

Based on my play-time

Chronos
Fantastic Contraption
Ruckus Ridge
The Gallery Part 1: Call of the Starseed
Audioshield
Hover Junkers

Also, agree with Vanishing Realms, The Lab and War Thunder

I keep reading Technollust as Technoslut :D

Lesdyxia?

Got Eve:Valkyrie installed last night, and set all the key bindings to the Warthog stick and throttle. The gamepad is always set up, so you can switch between controllers. I have some tweaking to do, but got the main axes and functiones mapped just fine. Binding is a bit clunky - very graphical interface, so slow to complete multiple bindings, and axis switching is odd (you can bind axes reversed depending on which way you push the stick during binding).

Had quite a blast, scored some good kills in the multiplayer. Everyone's in a Rift (presume Vive players coming soon?), was pleased with the pace - faster than

Ran fine with zero noticeable judder on 780GTX (set to medium-ish settings).
Looked good too, great for players/former players/fans of the regular Eve Online universe.

I know it's a shallow game, but its a good VR demo if nothing else - getting shot out into space feels fast; maneuverability is great, and watching the pilot body move around as you move your head is a nice touch. Shame the hands don't seem to move joysticks etc like Elite (maybe too low detail settings?).

Also, definitely worthy of the "Intense" experience rating. I'm prone to motion sickness when travelling and can't see out, but suffered no motion sensitivity... until I got into Valkyrie. If you do suffer from VR-induced motion sickness, this will be pretty hard.

It seems VR-induced motion sickness and real-life motion sickness aren't the same thing (not in my case anyway)!

I bought this about a week ago but it just crashes Steam and Steam VR as soon as I try and play it. It wasn't expensive so I'm not that fussed but it doesn't happen with anything else.

First game I got for the vive last thursday was Hotdogs, Horseshoes and handgrenades.
and best room experience I have had yet.

It's on the summer sale at this moment, and the dev is highly active tweaking and adding things, had it for less than a week and already the menu system has had a major overhaul.

The breach level is great fun, particularly when you get your standing position right to be able to physically move around the corners, it's tricky and I have walked into a wall more times than I'd like to admit.
And yes, unlike video games in general this is close enough to real to actually teaching you to shoot a gun,

Definitely WARThunder. If you enjoy flying then you'll love warthunder! Especially in sim mode.
Note though: Like in real life it is quite a learning curve to learn to take-off/fly/manuever/land, but once you get it boy the things you can do.
Oh yeah and a hotas is a MUST!
I fly real airplanes in real life and must say flight characteristics in warthunder is pretty close.

VR Graphics breathtaking, especially when flying thru clouds

One more thing, when attacking ennemy aircraft you must move in closer than you normally would on a monitor.

DCS World is an amazing experience in VR. Given it is free and includes a free P51 Mustang trainer and Su25T Russian attack jet that are both fully modeled, there is no excuse not to try . It has Oculus native support and a pixel density slider is coming at the weeks end illustrates the commitment DCS has to VR.
I haven't tried War Thunder in VR but will and expect it will look great. Having flown everything pretty much worth flying since SubLogic first wrote Flightsim back in 1975, I have to say that if you really want to feel what it is like to be in a WW2 aircraft then ---DCS

Although Project Cars is surely fun when it comes to driving, IRacing it the pinnacle. With native Oculus support , as well as, a new DX11 engine this drive is as smooth as a babies bottom. The sense of depth to the corner is sublime. My racing lines have improved dramatically in VR. What a rush.

I too am disappointed with Vorpx. I do enjoy Skyrim, Portal, Black Mesa and Half-Life 2, so I guess I'll live with the purchase, but the program isn't high on my recommend list.

Adrift is quite good and gorgeous to look at. EVE Valkyrie is pretty but after so much time in all that is Elite, it just doesn't do anything for me.
