List of suggestions/features for Elite

As the title says, this is a list of suggestions that I think would make elite more fun

1. Multicrew/Fighters/Crew members

1a. Fix the long-standing fighter lag bug. This is the main reason why they aren't used in PVP

1b. Allow AI crew to be used similarly to multicrew. Why can't my ai crew member be a gunner or pilot while I use the guns?

1c. Introduce mining fighter with core/subsurface/deep-core loadouts to assist with mining, maybe a prospector fighter too?

2. Combined arms Odyssey gameplay

2a. Introduce restricted airspace around settlements in combat so ships can't wipe out everyone instantly.

2b. Introduce air-to-ground fighters (small bomb or high fire rate MC's)

2c. Allow fighters to enter restricted airspace

2d. Introduce anti-air weapons for on-foot

2e. Allow fighters/SRVs to be deployable in a conflict zone in some manner while on foot

2f. Expand use of Maverick Suit in conflict zones (shutting down turrets or something)

2g. Now on-foot gameplay has the potential to be fun and engaging, rather than mediocre bullet sponge gameplay

3. Fixing engineering

3a. This feature has already been discussed by the community and Frontier has accepted input

3b. Now just implement it

4. Fleet Carrier improvements

4a. Introduce filter "My Fleet Carrier" to Nav panel. I don't care about other people's carriers, I am trying to unload my own.

4b. Allow Fleet carriers to 'deactive their transponders' so they can enter systems that are at capacity.
4.1b. This would (theoretically) decrease strain on the servers by not broadcasting the carrier's position to every player in the system, only the owner and maybe their team/squadron. Maybe grant a discount on upkeep when deactivated too.

4c. Introduce a carrier loading/unloading service where, for a markup, you can load any good available in a local station to your carrier.
4.1c. This would take time like ship transfers but would let a carrier owner do other things than mindlessly go back and forth between the station and their carrier.

4d. Introduce a smaller class of carrier that is only visible to the owner and team/squadron for a cheaper price.
4.1d. This would act similar to a current carrier but would be much easier on the server, and would be better for the owner too. Carrier would be much cheaper, with little to no upkeep due to only the owner using it rather than NPCs and other players.

5. Fix long-standing bugs

6. Consoles

6a. Obviously release Odyssey on consoles, ditch PS4/Xbox1 if you need to, just give players a free upgrade to the latest generation where they can then purchase odyssey.

6b. Make sure console players can save their CMDR data and transfer it across generations of consoles

6c. Crossplay between PC/New consoles?

7. Stuff that probably won't happen

7a. Bigger hauler than type 9 or cutter

7b. Expanded Odyssey settlements (just bigger and more stuff)

7c. Type 7 medium pad or dedicated medium pad hauler (comparable price to python/krait/FDL) (other than t6) (maybe type 8?)

7d. Nerf shield tank, buff hull tank

7e. Proper stealth mechanics

Anything else? Don't like what I think? Discuss below!

"3. Fixing engineering

Implement what?

"4b. Allow Fleet carriers to 'deactive their transponders' so they can enter systems that are at capacity.
4.1b. This would (theoretically) decrease strain on the servers by not broadcasting the carrier's position to every player in the system, only the owner and maybe their team/squadron. Maybe grant a discount on upkeep when deactivated too."

Never going to happen due to messing up CGs

"4c. Introduce a carrier loading/unloading service where, for a markup, you can load any good available in a local station to your carrier.
4.1c. This would take time like ship transfers but would let a carrier owner do other things than mindlessly go back and forth between the station and their carrier."

See 4b - would make CGs Imbalanced

Other than that a few decent suggestions

4b. Allow Fleet carriers to 'deactive their transponders' so they can enter systems that are at capacity.

Can't be done, there's a max number of carriers in a system determined by the availability of primary ID64's in the database for a given system, that's the maximum numbe of carriers and it can't be increased, it has nothing to do with any in game lore or determination, it's simply the way the galaxy is made and the way fleet carriers are set up to be available across all platform and modes.

no mention of this fun behaviour?

the carrier management menu stops your ship and closes your cargo hatch for no reason.

can that entirely unwanted and unnecessary and inconsistent behaviour not do that?

annoyed while mining,
Everyone who has a carrier

It does indeed, it also bring you to a halt in SC, and I am sure it didn't do that when they first came out.

Most of what you have suggested has been suggested some before, and of course, its not like FD are unaware of Odyssey not being on consoles, that was a silly thing to add.

2a. Introduce restricted airspace around settlements in combat so ships can't wipe out everyone instantly.

There is. Most settlements have AA turrets which will fire if you aggro the settlement. I mainly take out NPCs from the air when its raiders, and then the power is off anyway.

Let me order modules without going to station. Its 3308 dammit we dont have space amazon?

Sure you can order them, but you have to go to the nearest post office to pick them up if you aren't in an inhabited system, and if you are in an inhabited system you need to be docked in station because unless you didn't notice, no EVA in ED yet!

It would be nice to be able to order modules from jameson memorial delivered to my fleet carrier.

I especially like the idea of a prospector SLF (SLP?), get up and close and either scan like the exobiology tool does now or shoot out a prospector arm that attaches and does the same thing as a prospector limpet. I do think the mechanic of juggling prospector limpets to collector limpets a bit cumbersome when you're down to the last few. Having a reusable method would be so much more preferable and a ship like this would be perfect.

2. Combined arms Odyssey gameplay

It's obvious that Odyssey shipped missing features and I would wonder if some of these weren't part of the original plan.

3. Fixing engineering

3b. Now just implement it
LOL. (y)

4. Fleet Carrier improvements

4a. Introduce filter "My Fleet Carrier" to Nav panel. I don't care about other people's carriers, I am trying to unload my own.
Definitely a must.

There's a techincal limit on how many persistent objects may be in a system apparently, I'm not sure how feasible it would be to overcome this.

4c. Introduce a carrier loading/unloading service where, for a markup, you can load any good available in a local station to your carrier.
4.1c. This would take time like ship transfers but would let a carrier owner do other things than mindlessly go back and forth between the station and their carrier.
Another good idea.
It can't be persistent due to the issues above and if not I'm not sure how it would work as part of a group. I would also imagine that only persistent objects can have ships dock, that's something that would have to change and I imagine that's a pretty core aspect that would not be trivial to implement, maybe as part of a future expansion?
5. Fix long-standing bugs
Currently that's a feature that will only be fixed when we can sit down in chairs.

6. Consoles

6a. Obviously release Odyssey on consoles, ditch PS4/Xbox1 if you need to, just give players a free upgrade to the latest generation where they can then purchase odyssey.
Leaving the last generation behind to only support the newer one is quite possibly a large part of the discussion on the ability to bring Odyssey to the consoles, though FDev have said that there are currently no plans to port Elite to this generation.

6c. Crossplay between PC/New consoles?
If FDev decided to ditch last gen and focus on current gen then I would love to see this happen.

7. Stuff that probably won't happen

7a. Bigger hauler than type 9 or cutter
<cough>Panther Clipper. More likely to happen than some of the above IMO.

7b. Expanded Odyssey settlements (just bigger and more stuff)
I think that will happen as development continues.
