Littering is unstoppable

Guests litter way too excessively. You have to have trashcans from one end of your zoo to the other if you want to have any vendors. I put so many near each one, yet I still find litter at the front of my zoo, very far away.

I think this was also a really big Problem in my old Main-Zoo but what's even worse is the insatiable Thirst and Hunger of the Guests. Is it even possible in a big Zoo to have happy Guests without getting broke and without limiting them? I just decided to build not a single Shop in my newest Zoo because they don't get happy anyways.

The Trash isn't that big of a Problem in my current Main-Zoo but I think they should make something to make the Caretakers more efficient when they are supposed to get rid of Trash. A good Tip is to place a Toilet Building at each Side of the intended Workzone for them, but sadly they are still often walking too far away

What does that have to do with littering?

I think he's implying that your janitors aren't doing their jobs. Of course that doesn't seem to be the case. IIRC you've been here long enough to know about workzones and such, so that probably isn't the problem. The only thing I could think to recommend with regards to workzones would be to break apart janitorial workzones into smaller sections and employ more janitors per zone, but if it's a bug you're experiencing then that probably won't help.

The problem with workzones is that the caretakers don't have a whole are they cover but only one specific path they walk from one building to the other, so if you have any smaller paths for viewing areas along that main path they never go there unless you put an unnecessary building there to include in their work zone. I had that problem many times and the best solution would be a remake of the workzones so that you can select paths as well and not just buildings, kinda like it was in roller coaster, or at least give us those markers we had in PC so we can cover everything without cluttering the park with buildings...kinda silly that we had it in PC already yet it didn't make it into PZ (like many other things) even though workzones are an even bigger deal here.

Another thing to watch out for is the fast forward litter problem that I noticed in my very first franchise zoo: as soon as the game runs faster than normal the guests litter like crazy no matter if there are bins or not and the caretakers have no chance of cleaning all that up...almost ruined my zoo at the time and I've no idea if it is fixed yet or not.

The caretakers delete the litter. If your zoo is littered, you've got either not enough bins, not enough caretakers or your caretakers leave out parts of your zoo because of lacking workzones for them.
If the bins are full, the guests litter the floor until the bins are emptied by a caretaker.

Edit: Are they not called zoo keepers in english? (It's "Zoopfleger" in german, not to mistake for "Tierpfleger", which I found very confusing at first)
Edit 2: Changed "zoo keeper" to the correct term "caretaker". My fault, sorry for confusing you. That's because I just translated my german name for them to english. Quite complicated, if translations lead to different names.

Nope, keepers are the ones taking care of the animals and "Zoopfleger" are called caretakers in the English version of the game and yes, it's confusing.

I'm not sure, but I think they are called Caretakers

It's alright, about the misunderstanding. I do have several caretakers, but there's almost no point giving them workzones, since litter can show up anywhere. I put around ten trashcans near each food/drink place, yet the guests still toss it on the ground in totally different places, and by the time a caretaker finally gets to it, other guests have complained. Plus, paths covered in litter don't look nice aesthetically.

I know how you feel. I have the same issue. Even with every staff using zones. I feel there are bins placed all around but the guests seem to prefer using the ground.
I have 3 caretakers working on one long-ish path, but some parts they will never clean unless I put them there. And I have assigned some random building to both ends of this "workzone". I have this feeling bins and caretakers were a bit more effective in ZT2. Hopefully it gets better with time<3
On a sidenote, has anyone eperienced major differences with upgraded vs non-upgraded caretakers? Do they just sweep faster or are ranges increased?

I've started training all of mine, something I hadn't bothered to do. I'll let you know if I notice anything.

I think maybe they should increase the Time Guests carry their Trash around before they throw it on the Ground because they can't find a Trash Can that isn't too full. It would be also great if we maybe could get some big Trash Containers that we can place behind the Shops, so the Vendors can empty the Trash Cans that are in a specific Radius around their Shop into the Container that then can be emptied later by the Caretakers (of course the Container should have a big enough Capacity to empty multiple Trash Cans inside of it)

Maybe guest are unhappy about that area? Too crowded paths ?

Back in december/january had some minor issues when guests were unhappy. Breaking stuff and littering.
Never had that problem after an update. But also started training every staff member I had to the max.

Here's my two cents: I always have my caretakers on lvl1 training and I don't set any work zones for them, but placing bins in strategic spots is the gamechanger. Caretakers treat bins as checkpoints, so if you don't have bins at the end of every pathway, some paths might not even be visited. I always make sure I have evenly placed bins in every corner of my zoo, with enough caretakers. You will also have to place more bins than usual in some hotspots like in and around food courts. Other than the hotspots, you don't even have to place too many bins everywhere, just pay attention to the bin/caretaker ratio so that they don't overfill. I hope that helps.

I wonder if they could add a 'Dumpster' item to the game. It would have a negative area of effect and would have to be placed in a staff area, but the way it could work is that by adding a dumpster to a work zone you get a boost on your janitor efficiency or something. Either that or something like a compost building like in Zoo Tycoon.

I agree, this seems to be a major issue with the work zone designations. I even made a post in suggestions just a little while ago about switching to a land based work zone rather than facility based.
