Live feed with added lies!!!

I cannot believe what I have just heard on the live stream from Gamescom... Just about the biggest lie you could tell about ED... 'Every known star is in the galaxy'

Let us begin with UY Scuti, largest star in our galaxy... but it is not in the game. Out of the largest stars in the Milky Way they have included just one, CY Canis Majoris, which is about 8th on the list.

There are entire threads dedicated to this. It is known by FD that the galaxy is nowhere near complete or remotely accurate, not even Pluto has the right textures for what is now known about it.

I would like to know why the team at Gamescom are telling lies about the game?

EDIT: This thread was created to highlight the knee jerk reactions that are a curse to these forums. Feel free to add a post if you like but be warned, this was only ever meant as some fun.

Well, as far as Pluto is concerned, FD already commented on it and make plans on changing it a bit to make it match a bit better.

Also, FD can only really list stars that we know the details about. Many of the largest stars lack accurate distance data and are not contained in star databases produced by the various astronomical societies and/or government space agencies for that exact reason. Soo - Gamescom folks probably don't know that. I'd say it's more a statement from ignorance than an actual lie.

I'm sure as far as the average gamer is concerned it's a relatively accurate model as we know it for a gaming universe.

The data comes from several catalogs that don't match and anyway some of the galaxy refers to a game designed on a BBC micro and even more of it on an Amiga and is naturally fiction. If some missing data destroys their immersion to the point they can't play the game then surely they would be the type of consumer who would do a bit of research before committing cash then go find another game that has a completely 100% accurate model of the milky way from the big shelf of accurate galaxy data games in the game store.

Yeah they can probably leave out some of the big variables that are bound to be gone supernova by now anyway. There is a nice reddish blotch in the Scutum Dark region that may be the remains of it?

Otherwise, file a bug report please, instead of throwing a tantrum here.

Excuse me, Sir - but are you ok?

So you're saying it's only got 99.999% of known stars.

K - most people are gonna simplify that to all known stars in their heads anyway.

NML Cygni: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NML_Cygni
RW Cephei: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RW_Cephei

Each link has accurate star location information. These are just the top 3 from the current known list. The locations for these are in NASA's star charts. I think you'd have to go to Pound Land to get a star chart without them on.

Yes, everyone knows about those stars. And just like the pillars of creation, they may not exist in 3301, in fact they may have gone nova a long time ago.

Look mate, am sure all of us here would like to see those monsters ingame, but quit with the whole drama queen hype, it is a little embarrassing to say the least.

I figure that this is worth discussing instead of the current - It cost to much - I wan pewpew u pirates - Insult solo player threads.

I personally don't like it when a company makes a claim that is not true - it's called false advertising - which to those of you that do not know is kind of against the law.

So sorry for not throwing a tantrum over the cost of bread or one of the other hot topics to moan about but I prefer to moan about this. If you don't like it, don't join in! See how simple it is!

Thanks OP for cheering me up. I was getting fed up about people complaining about the pricing for the expansion. Now those individuals seem much more rational :)

Saying the value of gravity is 9.81 m/s^2 is probably less accurate margin of error than their statement. Yet most sensible people would consider it truth.

It was probably a bit daft to say EVERY known star. Stars are being found, charted, reclassified and go nova all the time.

To be fair, as an amateur astronomer and mega-geek myself, I think they've done a pretty fab job of our galaxy. I can forgive them the odd sweeping (inaccurate) statement.
