Live Lave radio. Hot news - Dropship mark 11 & gunship.

The Gamescon announcement is that all the ships connect together to form a big giant robot like the Power Rangers or Transformers and will fight a giant Thargoid. When we get Planetary Landings, this will happen in a small model of New New Tokyo.

While I'm not a fan of the recent Elite:MarioParty concepting, I really want to play this sub-game of yours. Voltron flashbacks like crazy. Dibs on the sword arm ship.

Actually I believe, through deciphering the Morse code clearly audible in the last episode of Kerrash Landing when all his 'Squeeee' noises are edited together and played backward at X2 speed through a Commodore C64 turbo loader, that the Gamescom announcement will be that we have all been selected by a real alien race that have been collecting our online data (much like the plot of popular Tim Allen 90's movie Galaxy Quest) and have recreated exact 1:1 working interstellar vehicles modeled on the Elite ships. Our mission will be to save all of humanity by defeating a very nasty and evil aliens species that look a bit like those black spider thingies from Babylon 5.

The good news is those Star Citizen guys will be going in first in their pretty little ships. God speed to them.

Hey! Many a dual backer here, including yours truly! :D One thing is clear, hype or not, this Gamescom is going to be the mother of all Gamescoms for space sim fans.

Assuming (big assumption here as we have no idea) FDEV's announcement is about plandings these 2 games would complement each other nicely: The one about FPS and the detailed micro experience. The other about the macro experience with a 1:1 galaxy all the way down to surfaces. If this was the case both games would be developing in paths that do not need to cannibalize each other at all. It is as if CR and DB had all this figured out and agreed in advance! :p

Hey, I too am a dual backer but if it's black spidery things from B5 that we're up against I'm not going in my Aurora.

Yay, we definitely need more ships for factions THAT ALREADY HAVE SHIPS!

If this happens i will go on a widespread rant'n'rage.

Because really, i'd like to be able to buy a ship for a change again.
They are either cheap crap, or federal, or imperial, or both.

No good ships since the Vulture / FdL.

I disagree. I currently have 20 ships counting the sidewinders for markers and the haulers for ship movement. I've flown nearly all the current ships and my favorite four ships include the Diamondback Explorer which was after the Vulture. I actually like it more than the Vulture for RES site and CZ fighting believe it or not. The Python, Anaconda, and Vulture are my other three favorites.

... Go buy a Federal Dropship. Like, right now ...

Dropships can be kind of cool and so are Clippers, but both are Python food!

Also an A spec Diamondback Explorer is the little killer you didn't see coming! I bet I'll make people laugh on this, but no kidding, it's a little beast!

I hope the new ships are cool because I'm ready to test them!

Star Citizen is no competition for Elite Dangerous in my opinion. It will eventually die from being crushed by it's own weight! I wish it was competition because competition will make the space sims better.

The future of space sims belongs to artistic passionate development teams which know the art of procedural programming like Frontier (ED) and Hello Games (No Man's Sky). No Man's Sky and Elite Dangerous will not complete for the most part, however, because they have different aims.

Where do you find out what "everybody" asked for? Do I get a say in that or is "everybody" a collective term for a group that doesn't include "everybody"?

Also, I missed the bit where they talked about "prioritising" things

David Braben, is the father of the space sim and Frontier is his company. If anyone and any company should know what makes a great space sim, it should be Braben and Frontier.

This forum with all the dedicated players is a great source ideas for the game, but there are so many and limited resources to implement those ideas.

What made the original Elite versions in the 80's and 90's successful (in my opinion, when I played them) was that they were open world (galaxy) games with combat, commerce and the wonder of EXPLORATION. With PowerPlay, Frontier has added playable politics and power which was not in previous versions of Elite. It remains to be seen if that was a good idea or not because they've definitely pushed back other major features to do it.

CQC is for XBox One console players and maybe to interest players who like Star Citizen.

I agree with many people on this forum and elsewhere who say that the game need a lot more varietly and eye candy, but it can't be at expense of game play-ability. If you want to try a space game with tons of eye candy and not much play-ability play "X Rebirth".

Sorry guys for the big string of posts all at once, but I read and respond when I get time and now's the time.

I wonder if that is true.
And how we would know that.

It is more likely that FD is developing different parts of the game at the same time.
As far as I know that is normal practice in game development.

For example they already had animated models of a cmdr moving through a Sidewinder 2 years ago. I recently re-watched that dev video.
I bet they also started developing planetary landings as far back as that.

I see no reason why they would have to put back major features because of the development of PowerPlay.
Who knows what future stuff they are already working on.

You seem to be thinking/implying that I said they couldn't be doing more than one thing at a time. I didn't say that and in fact I'm positive they are always doing several things at once. As a software developer and team leader myself, I know that there is ALWAYS a limit to the amount of features you can put into a software system at one time. Therefore, I know that no matter how big Frontier team is, they have to push back features to complete others.

You wanted to know how I know. That's how I know.

I do, however, hope your thinking is right. I hope they're going to reveal that they have all the new game features all of us want done in the next release! I'm not holding my breath though.

Will be hilarious if they release planetary landing and the 2 drop ship owning cmdrs in elite are the only ones that can land :p Whilst every1 desperately grinds rep.

Sure the Dropship has some wing surface, but it is veeeeery heavy (around 1000 tonnes fully equipped).

I'll put my money on the Hauler (it has a visible re-entry heat-shield surface underneath, similar to today's space shuttle) or the Eagle (large wings, low weight, looks aerodynamic)

edit : the Cobra can probably glide quite well too.

The Diamondback's seeem like they may be capable as well, or at least to me they do.

Great episode of lave radio! Interesting hints from the Frontier guys as well, almost spat my tea out at Eds radio voice (it was ed wasn't it). The roles of these ships is interesting, so what does the Federal Gunships do then :)
