When RCTW did their first live stream, I was in awe. It was beautiful to see a working park, modern graphics that really do look great, no denying it. But now I've realised that is as far as it goes with RTCW.
Planet Coaster didn't have the working park, but I thought it was outstanding, a really nice wow moment to see such care and love that's been brought into the actual feel of the game. It sure did make my imagination explode with ideas and here's why, It's all about the themes, the concept artwork and styles for areas goes above on beyond what I was expecting, this is MMO type thematics, crazy ideas that actually works so well. One thing that really stuck out for me, was the white chapel with the bell, it's a beautiful concept that I hope makes it though to the game, all I was imagining was a coaster climbing up to the top where the bell is, then the bell dinging as the coaster runs down the slope.
It's all well and good having User Generated Content, but from what I can tell with RCTW, they're 3d image of a mountain, that fills up an area, you can change it, you can't go through it, you can't build on to it, but all you can do, is work around it. That to me is a fundamental flaw. With Planet Coaster, It's ad-hoc, if you want your coaster to go through something, you can make it do it, if you want an arch guests can walk through you can, if you want your coaster to dive inside the arch that guests are walking though, you can do that too.
With everything so modular, that will help expand UGC in a big way (when it's ready to be released), because people have freedom to place it where-ever and on whatever they wanted.
Massive congrats to the devs and creation guys with all these ideas, while I still profoundly disagree with the Alpha/Beta access pricing, I see this game as something that will re-invent the genre.
Edit: Also the stream was a little clumsy sometimes with the black screens for a bit, but one thing that really does stick out, is that the passion from John Laws. [up]
