Live Streaming tips and setup

What is your setup to live stream Planet Coaster? I tried it out last night and it was pretty simple. I used OBS software and streamed to YouTube (with the mic off, I'm not ready to give play-by-play!) and found myself with 4 viewers after a few minutes!

One thing I found helpful was to run the game in windowed mode with the window maximized. I found that if I ran it fullscreen, clicking on one of my other monitors to get to the desktop made the game exited abruptly. I have three monitors, so I put OBS on the left, Planet Coaster in the middle, and Chrome with YouTube running to monitor the live output. I noticed there is about a 15-second lag, but it did stream 1080P very well. Is that normal? My internet speed is more than sufficient, so I don't think that's a factor.

Any tips or suggestions for the newbie streamer? I'm just doing it for fun, no aspirations to quit my day job, LOL.

I'm just going to run it whenever I'm playing.

Live streaming set up

One of the major with live streaming is that most cameras are designed to record video, not to stream it. That’s why you’ll need encoding software or hardware to change your video from a format optimized for recording and storage to one designed for transmission over the web.

Software encoders are generally more affordable, and are often preferred by small-scale producers. There are even free and open-source software encoders available, but pro-level encoders like Wirecast Pro and vMix are better options. These software packages require a computer with a decently fast processor that can deal with transcoding video in real-time.

It’s better to use a dedicated white label video streaming service such as StreamHash, DaCast, Ustream, or Livestream. These will provide a better streaming service with more control over video placement, monetization, access, recording, and more.
