Live with no Odyssey?

Yes. But with the new launcher mine is no longer listed as 'live' on my Epic Alt. My main has Ody, my Epic Alt is just EDH and it has under versions: Elite Dangerous Horizons and Legacy Horizons

And you can take part in the Thargoid war, get the new weapons and devices and everything else, properly? But you're just cut out from foot stuff, like the new AX restoration missions?
Hmm, good question. My Epic Alt (freebie from a couple years back) does not have any engineering, so I have not tried any Thargoid activities. I think 'yes' due to the previous live label, so the galaxy is shared and Tharg ship combat should be in that shared galaxy, with the rescue megaships and their 'toys'. But I have not tried. I will have to go try out flying into a maelstrom and report back, along with landing at a rescue ship with EDH only and seeing if I can purchase any of the new AX weapons. I am pretty sure the answer is Yes, but I'll try it out and report back.

No problem. It was fun to try. However the Thargoids refused to let me jump into the maelstrom system. I tried a few times and on the last jump into the maelstrom system I was pulled out of the jump by an interceptor and destroyed each time. Seems like my unengineered Hauler is not fast enough to outrun them.Thanks, I would be very grateful if you can confirm that for me
I was able to see the galaxy map with the Tharg invasion affected systems. And on the Tarach Tor rescue ship I could have bought an enhanced ax multicannon, if I had all the needed mats, which of course I did not. Nevermind the Hauler does not have the right weapon slot, but I am pretty sure if I had gotten to any of the maelstrom systems, I could have gone into the storm. That was the plan, go into the storm and get bounced out by the big blue pulse wave, for the mats of course. But a faster and more well armed ship is needed to even get there it seems.
I chose a ship with a decent jump range that was cheap (Hauler), as I had a pretty good idea it was a one way trip... but it was fun.
Horizons 4.0 has access to everything in Live minus on foot activities, including the Thargoid Titans. I believe somewhere Frontier stated that Odyssey will not be required content for the majority of the Thargoid war content, but I don't have a saved link to that statement, and I could be remembering a version of my conclusion of what was said, and what was actually stated was far more vague.If I have ED Horizons, but not Odyssey, can I play Live, rather than Legacy?
Asking for a friend (literally).
Horizons 4.0 cannot instance with Odyssey 4.0 players due to the ratings being different.
(Pegi-7 for the base game and Pegi-16 for Odyssey)
Good point. So Rootsrat won't be playing with his friend unless they both use the same version of the game.

I would assume the AX restoration missions would not spawn for a non-Odyssey player, so no revenants either? Those are taken on foot, aren't they?
Mostly so, but mind that some of the goods items required to unlock some modules are best found—or perhaps even only found—at Odyssey bases. The Caustic sink launcher comes to mind; acquiring something such as that may imply asking a friendly Commander with Odyssey to help supply some of the parts.
Depending on your form of participation, note also that with only Horizons one cannot approach an atmosphere planet at all, not even just to proceed with low-orbit combat in a Control system or to defend an attacked port in an Invasion system. Typically there will be a red drop zone at around 400–500 kilometers, which is an order of magnitude higher than the maximum altitude for suppressing Swarms. It should be quite fine to drop at an open-space Conflict zone, though!
That unlock doesn't require any goods other than caustic samples.
My EDH only CMDR had no problems unlocking everything and going to maelstrom, so not sure what you're meaning
You can collect them from the mission board without leaving your ship. I would not be surprised if they did spawn for non-Odyssey players (considering they still get missions directing them to settlements on atmospheric bodies that they can't get to) but expect the settlements would appear empty to them just like any others.

In what cargo rack are you carrying said caustic samples, and from where did you obtain the Neofabric Insulation to unlock it?
mission rewards, or Palin selling CRCR without an unlockedit: Ah, maybe not the bases - some unlock commodities are available to buy but maybe not these. Still - that's why I stock up on them in my FCs - at very reasonable prices

You can do everything that is not Odyssey only, so you cannot disembark and you cannot access any feature located on an tenuous atmo planet.
So if the destination port/feature is located on a such planet (it will be marked accordingly so you will know in advance) you will hit the exclusion zone if you try to get close.
You can even visit Odyssey settlements located on horizons planets, but they will be empty (no pedestrians)
