[LIVESTREAM] EDRPG - 5 Oct, 19:00 BST

Tonight will be the last livestream before Frontier Expo, and we've got a special guest joining us from the community! Elite: Dangerous Roleplaying Game (EDRPG) smashed their Kickstarter goal earlier this year and now the wonderful team at Spidermind Games are readying the launch of this eagerly-awaited RPG.

Join Lead Community Manager Edward Lewis with Jon Lunn & Oliver Hulme tonight at 19:00 BST as they talk about what EDRPG is, go through some of the core rulebook, and create a new character for Ed!

For those attending Frontier Expo, Jon and Oliver will be hosting their own space at the venue between 10:00 - 13:00 so you can come along and meet them in person!

Tune in to the livestream in the usual place: https://youtube.com/EliteDangerous/live

I read 'Jon and Oliver' as Jon Oliver. That would have been funny to watch!
I also thought that ED was getting RPG elements (the computer type, as opposed to table top - the latter not being my thing) and thought 'very nice'. Oh well.

Looking forward to this! The Backgrounds in the Core Book really add some flavour to character creation: your characters are more than the sum of their stats. Have fun!

Great session, really enjoyed it. Would love to see a Frontier stream running a session of this with Ed and his "sidekick" plus some other Devs.

New ship !

Interesting that 2018 is free. I am cool with it but other Lep owners may be a bit worried. £120 is a lot. Gutted that so much of it is MP only . No NPC wings which I really hoped would come and no NPC crew .

Hopeful mining will be good and better scanning tools. Mixed feelings over all for me

so, we got:

- alliance ships anounced.
- Krait, T10 and that other ship i didnt here the name
- mining mechanic change that will allow us to blow up asteroids :D
- red stripe angry thargoid reinforcements
- explorer mechanics changing and a personal codex for your findings
- a guild system with own motherships to purchase
- player controlled flagships?

- end of beige, welcome to new planets early 2018
- eventually guardian tech based rails and plasma guns

edit: totally forgot:
- galnet audio out
- engineers will always grant you an upgrade for rerolls

Lots of good stuff.
Guilds look great, although they appear to be favouring the trigger happy.
De-beige-ification looks great and this improvement will be very welcome.
Of all that was mentioned the Explorers Update was the least exciting.
Maybe they just undersold it to manage expectations.
The mining career held more promise with what was mentioned.

Guys, a good livestream and expo but I'm sorry... I'm really disappointed with the news from that livestream.

For the next year there don't seem to be any major new features. So FD are adding a handful of new ships to the game, adding a few new weapons, additional Galnet content (whoopee), more community goals, enhancing mining mechanics and adding some social options to the game.

Improving the planet shaders so we can have a bit of colour variation doesn't sound like a feature but a minor enhancement. Nor does enhancing the procedural generation to place more objects, and localised effects like fog. I think players were hoping for more variations in the terrain of planets (vegetation, forests, wildlife) and their atmospheres.

The announcement of squadrons being able to have their own capital ships is probably the most significant news.

Galnet audio may encourage more players to delve into the background "narrative" but perhaps they should have gone the whole way and added in-game support for radio stations as many players had suggested. Personally I don't think Galnet is an effective or interesting way to deliver the "overall narrative" for the game. I do think though that the "overall narrative" is extremely important to the future of the game, as without an involving interesting story arc that players feel connected to, the player base might significantly thin out over time.

I hope I'm wrong but it seems as though they've passed ED over to a caretaker development crew for the next year, whilst FD shifts development towards the new game - Jurassic World Evolution.

I understand that, as with any business, FD needs to generate income. I would have preferred it if FD had ramped up development on Elite. I appreciate they can only do that if they are able to increase their revenue from it or established a revenue stream from the ongoing expansion of Elite. I would much rather they had announced another £40 expansion, packed full of new features.

I think they've done a great job on Elite Dangerous so far, but to sit back for a year may only see the player base erode. It's a real shame as there are no shortage of really good suggestions on the forums for possible enhancements and new features.

^
FDev only releases half features, instead of improving on the base mechanics and go from there, what the hell FDev?
FDev spends time improving the base mechanics, no new features, what the hell FDev?

Also, procedural generations a "minor enhancement"?

Interesting that 2018 is free. I am cool with it but other Lep owners may be a bit worried. £120 is a lot.

From my LEP perspective. I''ll judge it when I break past even money by a penny. Only 2 paid for upgrades needed (maybe less with Brexit inflation ;) )

I have patience, belief and must be risk adverse.

Although they could give us a sweetener of few store credits free each year for cosmetics or an invincible sidewinder with no guns {to annoy greifers}

I can think of atleast 2 key software additions to the game that I would pay.

The free cost for a year didnt surprise me when I saw the roadmap for 2018 and welcome it for all players, its fair and hopefully the ingame store is paying its way.

FD clearly have to solidify the base game engine whilst keeping continued regular updates for existing players.

It makes sense to put more resources into Jurassic park now because i can envisage alot of lines of code and dev experience can be used for elite dangerous ie. atmospheric planet creation and populated animal behavior.
