I already know to get her invite you have to get a Cordial reputation with the Eurybia Blue Mafia, which I accomplished only from handing in exploration data and trading at their stations. No invite yet. I assume I have to do a mission with them then?

As far as I can remember. You'll have to do a special "invite" mission. When I hit cordial with the Eurybia Blue Mafia it didn't immediately show on the mission board. Just let the mission board refresh itself, log out and back in and such and you'll get it eventually. The mission itself is probably just a delivery mission.
Ok, I see it now. There's a mission for Eurybia Blue Mafia that says Engineer Invitation Contract, and it's a simple data delivery to a nearby system. Problem solved.
