After spending four hours trying to upgrade my sidewinder to have two beam lasers I must have earned over 15000 unfortunately every time I upgraded the hard point and launched the game crashes loosing me my money and the laser. I save the game prior to upgrading but after each crash I am left without any money and no option to load the old save with the money prior to trying to upgrade.. I look at everyone with new Cobras with envy as I am afraid to upgrade in case I loose all my money and get no ship....is there a way to load a previous save game?

No because that would be going back in time - something you cannot do in multiplayer games. Insurances can protect you from losing everything when its down to your fault, but nothing can prevent you from losing everything when its down to a program error (other than administrator help). One of the reasons I hate multiplayer games generally, complete lack of control even over your own game.

I would suggest that you save and quit immediately after upgrading your hardware, then log in to continue. Changing ships is perilous, because it involves a loading screen, but upgrading guns should be fine
. The problem comes when you have to go through a loading screen before the hardware is saved.EDIT: Also, when you do want to change ships, you can sell equipment back at 100% value, so there's no reason not to upgrade

Upgrade...Save and Exist...Log back in. If it crashes you now have it saved with your new equip.
