Loan Sharks & Crime Lords, just thinking out loud

LOAN SHARKS and CRIME LORDS. This idea may have been kicked around already, but being a 41 year old Star Wars Fanboy and all around Han Solo worshiper, it would be interesting to be able to get a loan from some underworld scum to buy a new ship or do some upgrades to a current ship... and have to pay him back before X amount of time, and if you are late on payment(s) you get bounty hunters after you. The amount of the loan you are able to get would have to be based on your status under trade, exploration, and combat - you could not have a newbee getting a loan for Conda, but maybe a loan for an Eagle or DBScout...etc...etc..

It seems a good idea..but new guy getting a 200 000 000 loan for a 'conda... yeah right, after all, would you loan 200 000 000 to a fresh faced 17 yr old kid who just walked in off the street?

Saying that, the crime lord idea does bring to mind better class of smuggling mission than the current "take 6 tons of personal weapons to blahblahblah station"

The mission is with the local crime syndicate and only obtainable by having rep with them

Description:

Meet up with our type 9 in blah blah system at a preset time, if you're late , no pickup+loss of rep
Pick up 50 tons of drugs and deliver them to woot woot station in 9hrs time.
If you're late, loss of rep+ 10% reduction in payment
Payment, slightly less than the drugs are worth, if you run off with them and sell them elsewhere.... NPC death squad will come looking for you, and your head becomes a tasteful wall decoration in the villian's lair

Obviously the loan amount able to be received would be limited by your rank status. Ultimatly the more I think about it though, the more the loan system would gum things up.

The smuggling missions based on rep with crime lords like you suggested, that is good idea.
