Where does Elite store profile information and other local data? I have never made a tool for a game and want to give it a shot but I'm having a hard time locating info on this.

Journal log files and associated ancillary json files exist in a sub-folder of ones profile, typically:
C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous
C:\Users\<username>\Saved Games\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous
