As someone who likes to play in open but also doesn't wish to die horribly when jumping into Leesti or Lave I'd really like an in-game way of finding some basic hints about what's going on in the surrounding systems.
Stations in a system must know about bounty allocation and related things. So, maybe the stations could sell that information to pilots? Nearby systems could also re-sell the reports.
For systems within a few light years you might have an extra option on them in the navigation panel or galaxy map, perhaps 'purchase shipping report (100cr)'
The report could contain:
The information doesn't even need to be real-time, perhaps a system might broadcast this every hour or so to nearby systems.
I thought about this while remembering that you could buy stock prices from stations while in deep space in Frontier: Elite 2

The report could contain:
- A "weather report", eg "traders report increased piracy", "increased mysterious disappearances" or "relative calm"
- The number of new bounties in the last 6 hrs
- The top five wanted (as from the BBS)
- Up/Down trending commodities (as from the BBS)
