Locate fellow gamers based on IP adr to build better communities

Game feature suggestion that (if players "allow" there IP to be used) that a map of players can be drawn up on a global map that be zoomed down to city/area level.

It great to meet new people online, but it add a little extra if those people live in your neighbourhood and you could end up with a BBQ or a few pints down the Pub discussing Elite.

Now there should be some restrictions in place, so it does not get misused, but I think it could be a real cool feature none the less.

Just a suggestion, what do you all think?

I don't see that this needs to be an in-game feature. Most online games that I've played end up with some kind of "where are you playing from?" map being created via the forums at some stage, which could be used in the way you suggest (there may even already be one or more here - I haven't looked).

My preference is that everything in the game itself should only relate to the simulated galaxy that we're playing in, but I might be in the minority (as I so often am).
