Location of install of ED:O

Hi,
Can anyone give me a good reason for installing the game files under APPDATA/LOCAL? Of all the idiotic places I would like to install things, that IS NOT one of them. My windows went on the fritz due to the fact that my drive is full! They need to give us an option of installing place... I have a 4 terra game drive that I installed the Launcher on so I could get the game on the that drive.. But no! Forced to install it on C: APPDATA. WHY!!!!! My game crashes 7 out of 10 times due to the windows disk gets full! THEY NEED TO FIX THIS ASAP!

Funny that I brought my game during Kickstarter, which is from the Frontier Store, and I have always had it installed on a separate hard drive.

This thread seems like it will help:

I have done that... Laucher is at G:\Frontier and game is at C:\Users\[USER]\AppData\Local\Frontier_Developments\Products\elite-dangerous-odyssey-64. They could have added a location option in the installer

Off the Frontier Store using the official launcher.
The thread I linked suggests that you need to delete the contents of the FD folders in APPDATA when you uninstall the game.

Set up a folder on the drive you want to install the game to, e.g. D:Games\Elite
Then download the launcher installer to D:Games\Elite.
Run the installer.

It should install the launcher to the D:Games\Elite folder, and the launcher should install the game files in the same folder.

In my experience the game is installed in the "Products" folder in the same directory as EDLaunch.exe - it would be worth checking if more than one copy of the launcher is installed on the machine.

Did you read what I wrote?

Well that is apperantly not working now!

Try moving the "Products" folder from inside AppData to G:\Frontier\EDLaunch.

Also, check the contents of the Frontier_Developments folder in AppData\Local.

Well, that made no dognabit sense at all!
Why couldn't the launcher just done that in the first place, instead of putting it into APPDATA\Local.... They need to make a real installer for this.... Consarnit!

Because that is originally where you chose to put it.

Why you would choose to install the launcher for a game onto a different drive from where you want the game to be installed, and why you would not completely remove a game when uninstalling anyway 🤷‍♂️ Life is full of mysteries.

I feel it's worth mentioning that games with standalone launchers installing into the location you choose to put the launcher isn't a new thing either, it's decades old.

But at least you're sorted now.

Well, ranting aside, you can see that I just did that... I had a mint version of windows when it comes to the installer. It was installed on G:\Frontier\EDLauncher from the get go and I had no remnants of the game on the os disk from before the reinstall (new NVMe drive as the old os drive died. Only files moved over from the previous install was MyDocs, Desktop and Pictures and that is because they are on a separate disk.) That is why I was somewhat confused and a bit angry. It takes 52GB of a 128GB OS disk (rather fast and only one available to me at the momemt of reinstall.)
