Newcomer / Intro Location Question

I'm about a week into my sidewinder and have done some light trading and exploration. I started in the hole that is LH3447 and wandered randomly out to Lalande, which seems like a comparatively decent place to work from. My question, is there a better place, nearby, to stage from initially?

Check out Branglal and LHS 1944. That is where I migrated to in the beginning. Nice trading and a few RES in the area. I have since moved from Federation space and into Ngaiwanag (Empire).

Wow. Great question! I have no idea, I just started jumping and ended up Naman, which is ok. I have no idea where the Feds territory is, Imp territory is, or anyone else. Just flying around having fun!

I would just use the Galaxy Map. Filter to High Tech economy and push the Population slider up until you find a decent population near by.
High Techs have the ships and equipment, have demand for some good expensive products, and the High Population will ensure any trade is profitable and sustained

tbh: i have a pen and a paper where i write down some systems i found with usefull characteristics... like a big variaty of available ships on a station, or a planet with rings and several Res near a station.

But after 2 or 3 weeks i completely dropped the idea of having a home-station or anything like that.... If i want to rep up with the feds i do the travel for a few 100 lightyears to get in a plain fed territory, if i wanna go bounty hunting, I look for a system that is not overcrowded (trade routes are a good indicator for that) and a powerful pirate party... i don't really care where it is.

When I don't like my current system anymore, i just pickup a cargo mission and see if i like the destination system... if i don't, i get the next mission. If i'm interessted, i start scanning everything and find myself something to do... BH, I'll BH the hell out of that place then xD

Thanks for the replies. I will try out the suggestions, later this evening :).

I game on EST from 1600 - 2000. Give me a holler if you are in the area. We can wing up and hit up some RES for some credits. Or, we can wing and I will take my T9 trading and share in the profits (have not done this yet, but would like to try it out).

Commander Tardis

What is your name Commander and what are you piloting?

As suggested already, by Dommarraa... just use the Galaxy Map... one of the features is different filters... you can easily use them to identify each Major Factions area in space.. Fed ... Empire and the other "one":D
