Locked out of the game

Steam says I'm up to date. I've restarted Steam several times now, I've validated the files numerous times, I've cleared the download cache. I have even reinstalled.

from Steam, I fire up the Elite launcher, and immediately get a popup message that the game needs to be updated, along with instructions for restarting steam, making sure it's updated, and so on. The elite launcher exits immediately afterward.

This has been going on for hours.

What gives?

Unfortunately, I just opened a similar thread. Appears to be affecting a handful of us. I haven't gone as far as re-installing but I've definitely done everything that I could think of. I'll try rebooting the computer to see if it works.

I think the issue is stemming from Steam not communicating properly with the ED launcher and vice-versa.

start the launcher directly from a file browser - not steam; it should give you an UPDATE button for Odyssey. Click it and WAIT - it will not appear to be doing anything. I took my dog for a walk after clicking update, and it was ready when I got back.
