Logged off properly- logged in blowing up. $20+ million insurance

Logged off properly- logged in blowing up. $20 million + insurance cost and I am absolutely not at fault. I've got it recorded from the point of load up. I was not wanted, I was not in combat, I had my fighter docked. I have not accepted the insurance fee as I understandably do not feel remotely responsible for paying it. Help

I was in an asteroid ring, yes. Above the asteroids though. I've played this game since release and logged out similarly 100s of times without mishap

Ah ok, I did wonder and asked that question because logging out near a ring can be hazardous if less than say, 4000m above the plane. (Just an educated guess) Particularly if the game logs you back in in a slightly different place perhaps.
In any case follow the path I posted above and customer suport will try to help you. Takes around 24 hours for reply.

The thing about asteroid rings is...

They move

Never, ever log out in them because (as you have now found out OP) they will bite.

Yeah. Remember that Elite: Dangerous is a simulation, stuff move around just like in reality. A surface base that is in the complete shadow side of a planet can just a couple of hours later be on the daytime side. And rings can wobble and change form etc. If you log near a ring, you can never be sure what reference system your ship will be logged to. ( This should however be an option. )
