Logging, Griefing, Etc - The Bottom Line

The threads surrounding all the different potential moments that a player could ever possibly log out of the game - still waiting for someone to complain about why logging out of the universe 5,000Ly from Sol is "gamebreaking", but I live in hope! :D - have all come thick and fast recently.
Which is fair enough, these are issues on people's minds which (for some of them at least) need addressing.

But the problem is that I see (and have been involved in) far too many heated arguments between players debating on whichever point of view they happen to have adopted.

This ire and disagreement is, in fact, entirely misdirected.
Shouting down that other forum user with arguments you may think are well thought out or even just for trolling's sake is not going to change the state of things.
Especially since only a small handful of the player base even bother to come on these forums anyway.

If there is a legitimate issue, then the the frustration and passion regarding that issue needs to be directed at Frontier to do something about, rather than to other players who may or may not agree with you.
Let's face it - even if you managed to persuade every other forum user that you your standpoint is the "correct one" - little chance of that - then still nothing would happen if Frontier have not been involved in the discussion.

While you are there typing away your spew-filled rant at that other person who DARED to question your own personal opinion on something, Frontier are happily raking in the profits and making things like "Power Play". (Heh! Sorry, FD, I couldn't resist a dig! :D)

My point is that if you seriously want something to change, then you have to direct your petitions to FD and not to the little guy behind a screen trolling away at his little computer at 3am in the morning... ^_^

And it's all very well FD putting up a single post saying (paraphrasing) : "We don't like XXX so we are going to ban people who do it. Maybe. If we can ever work out who is actually doing this legitimately..."
But the fact is, that post is now buried away and there's been no announcement to the player base on the login screen or in game anywhere to this affect. Not only that, there's not even been an announcement (that I have seen) detailing how many players have received bans or punishments (if any) since this came into effect.
For all we know, the post was nothing more than an "appeasement" thread to quiet the angry mob... I don't know...

In the MMORPG game I used to work on, if there was ever a rule change or announcement that a particular action may result in a ban, this was made extremely public to "everyone", not just the minority of forum justice warriors - and it was made very clear the effect this change was having on the game and the player base.

This is just my thoughts this morning.
Maybe nothing more.

Ramblings of an old man who didn't get a lot of sleep over the weekend... lol!

I heard our local griefer had been "shadowbanned" to solo for a while for using a shield hack, but that he's now back in Open. But that of course is only hearsay. Justice must be seen to be done, even rather pathetic justice. I don't think FD are terribly clued up on MMORPG management... well let's face it, I don't think they're terribly clued up, or effectual. I'd say as much to them but I don't think they have resources to read suggestions or do much about them either!

Often lack of direct communication between devs and the community is what can cause arguments in the player base as they dont get much in the way of an official response.

Active community management is vital when it involves largescale player to player interactions.

I feel your pain!

Though I am sure that FD want to try and improve this.
