Newcomer / Intro Login Error upon launching game

Hey! I just bought Elite today as I've been excited to get into it for forever. I purchased the game through steam, and have had my key verified and everything, but I keep getting the error: "Login Failure: The game failed to communicate with the authentication server. Please check you internet connection and try again in a few minutes." It does say "Connection Status: CRC failed" in the corner, but that's about it.
I'd really love some help. This has been happening for 15-20 minutes and I'm just itching to get into the game.

In recent days, there was a problem with Steam. Don't exactly know the details as I don't use it, but maybe it's not logging you in?

If you go into your Steam games folder (It's usually "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common") you should have Elite (or Frontier Developments) folder there.
Go in and locate the launcher .exe file and run it. Log in with your Frontier account credentials (the same email and password you're using for the Frontier store) and you should be able to play.

Hey! That worked. Launching from the .exe forced me to login again and I guess that's what ran it through. Thanks a bunch.

Having the same problem as OP, Steam bought and cannot login. Fix did not work for me. Even tried logging out machine, restarting and going through process fresh but I still get the error. Any other ideas? I haven't even started playing the game, but Steam has me for 78hrs...
