Logitec X56 and VKB Stick

I have been using the Logitec X56 Stick and Throttle combo for a couple of years and want to upgrade. However finance is tight so my question is can I combine my existing Logitec Throttle with a new VKB NXT Flght Stick? When I have saved up I will then buy the VKB EVO Throttle. Thanks

Yes, you can. I don't know if the X56 Throttle is a separate device from the joystick, but even if not, you can just rebind all the X56 Joystick controls to the VKB and leave them both plugged in.

Yep, that very setup was along my upgrade path - I went from the X52 to the X52 throttle and Gladiator Pro (which gave me no issues) before upgrading the throttle to the X56 version.

That said - I'm not sure if it was a symptom of a different stick working with the throttle though, but I was plagued by ghosting issues with the throttle. Loads of random button presses happening at random times, like the boost going off, or the galmap popping open randomly. (This was an older blue/black Saitek X56, not the current Logitech one, and I did buy it "refurbished" so...)

I put up with it for less than a week before going back to the X52 throttle and returning the X56. (And then came the Virpil stuff, which is a WHOLE other story!)

Known issue with the x56. It pulls a lot of energy from the USB port. The common way to fix it is to have a powered USB Hub. Some PCIe USB cards also work - that's what I use. But mine has ONE port that works well, the other 3 have ghosting.

I didn't have the X56, but the X52 Pro, so I don't know if the connection scheme is the same. In my case, the X52 stick was connected to the throttle, which had the USB connection to the PC. When I upgraded to my first VKB EVO, I just disconnected the stick from the throttle and just used the throttle along with my new stick, worked fine.

Yep, when I pinged Logitech about it, that's exactly what they told me - when I told them it was already in a powered USB hub they suggested I plug it directly into the PC (motherboard ports, NOT any front ports connected by a cable) which didn't work for me either.

No such issues with my Vipril CM2 - apart from one of the wires pinching and buttons stopping working when the throttle is at the magic 75%!

This should work. X56 stick and throttle are separate devices and can be connected independently. You will even be able to use the Logitech configuration software without issues. I am using this throttle in combination with my Virpil stick.

I can confirm this behavior, too, and this is one of the reasons I would not recommend to purchase a new X56 set.

Fun fact: The throttle reports a power requirement of only 160 mA when connected, which I believe to be the reason of the issue: I suspect there are the actual current draw has very short peaks exceeding this limit, and modern mainboards seem to be very strict on enforcing the limits. Older Boards seem to be more lenient and tolerate this.

I never noticed an issue while I was using the X56 throttle on my old PC. With the new box, I have severe ghosting when I connect it to one of the front ports. Using a powered hub did not resolve the issue for me. I tried both a USB-C hub (the USB-C port I used is USB-PD capable up to 60 Watts), and a rather old USB 2.0 hub with an external 2.5 A power supply. Still ghosting. Luckily, I found a port on the mainboard that does not give me any ghosting.

Try every available port, if you have ghosting issues. You might want to try a powered hub, too. But in the end it seems to be a gamble. Definitely not recommended for new setups.

I'm using the X56 throttle with a VBK NXT Evo stick. It works great. I replaced the X56 stick when it started flaking out on me. The Evo is more comfortable and is built better than the X56. Everything needs to be re-bound, but that doesn't take too long
