Hardware & Technical Logitech Extreme 3D Pro joystick help

I just bought the game (never played space sim before). I've always been a huge MMO fan + space nerd, so I figure this is the perfect game. It looks gorgeous and fun, and I tried to play but crashed my ship to the point where I can't even get it off the ground lol...had to delete my save file. I become so frustrated I don't even want to play. I tried many different keyboard/mouse keybinds and just am not finding it enjoyable. I had a Best Buy gift card for $25, so I picked up a Logitech Extreme 3D joystick and it only ended up costing me $7 bucks! I know it's not the best option but it hopefully will help. I plan to use my keyboard but I want something to fly around/aim/shoot with, so hopefully this solves that. Anyway, now I'm looking to actually PLAY this game. Can anyone help me bind this joystick? Anyone have a keybind layout/control scheme layout?

Thanks for any help! Enjoy to see you all in the universe. Feel free to add me if you want. -Barch

yaw on the Y axis? O,o

btw you do need that left hand on the base. This lightweight joystick will get pushed over constantly if you don't.

That's a bargain. The 3D Pro is an excellent joystick. They're normally £40
I've had one for years and only recently replaced it with a Hotas. My son has it now and it's still working well

Not for me personally, I use the twist to yaw, and Z to roll, I just remembered this pic from when I first set mine up a year ago.

Have used my Logitech for over 1600 hours of play and it is as solid today as it was the day I plugged it in.

The base is wide and heavy enough that I have NEVER had it lift off or move while I used it.

Agreed! although a few interdictions have caused me to move my stick lol...

I love my 3D pro, a really great deal you got there
I have the obvious ones set up (Yaw, pitch, roll, boost, targeting)
But I also have my gear on the bottom left and my scoop on the middle right of the base, a bit weird but Im used to it now :p

I have one and i think its excellent. I did try to fiddle around with the bindings when i first got it but i just use the defaults now which are fine...

I have the Logitech Extreme as well. I thought about upgrading but I really don't have the desktop space for the fancy gear. I started with "generic joystick" and refined it from there.

I have: 12-up thrust, 11-down thrust, 10-FA-OFF (toggle), 9-Target closest hostile, 8-Deploy Hardpoints, 7-deploy landing gear, 6-Jump, 5-sub targeting, 4-Boost, 3-Target, 2-secondary fire, 1-fire. The +/1 slider closest to you would be the throttle (with some deadzone added). You will want to adjust the deadzone on a few things but that is all personal taste.

There's also other things you can adjust, for instance my "resume route" is set to "k", for no particular reason other than it didn't appear to be bound to anything else :/

Anyway, start with "generic joystick". Anything you use you will probably fine tune, just take time to learn the game and adjust things as you go. I made adjustments for months before I had what I have now.. There really isn't a right or wrong way to set your bindings but you can tell from the option-controls menu it can be very overwhelming.

btw-keep track of what you change. I've done changes before and forgot I did them or didn't realize I saved them, then been in battle and have a key NOT work and in the heat of battle.. Make a change, test it, undo it if you don't like it.

I don't have this too much, but I can see the rubber getting less rubbery over time and if it stopped sticking to the desktop very well I can see where it would suck.. but, no troubles yet..

Actually this is pretty good advice, but not for the reason you state:)

When I was working out the bindings I find it a pain to go back and look at the keyboard to hit a key, I migrated the bindings I used most to the Logitech so I don't have to remove my hands from it too much. More efficient I guess..

If you want to zip around in a solar system, you need to fly away from the station until MASS LOCK light shuts down. Then hit 'J' to supercruise - but even then it can feel deceptively slow...
