Hardware & Technical Logitech G933 surround sound headphones change my audio experience for the better.

[yesnod] Just picked up a Logitech G933 wireless surround-sound headphone/mic setup at Best Buy for $139. Hearing lots of new stuff in the game and other stuff sounds significantly different and better than on my old 5.1 surround-sound speakers. The surround-sound works great, the first time I heard an in-station announcement I actually jinked left a little because the sound came from my right then echoed from my left, sounded like the guy was in my right ear. Very cool, I highly recommend it. o7

I've been looking into replacing my cheap gaming headset ever since my 2-year-old chewed the fabric off one earpiece. Thanks for the recommend.

On a related note, I've been trying to get my head around the DTS headphone:X vs Dolby Digital 7.1 surround sound options, but it's a rabbit hole for dedicated audiophiles.

The Elite: Dangerous audio settings now include a DTS headphones option which seems to imply that ordinary headphones would be sufficient to take full advantage of Elite's soundscape. Could anybody confirm if that is the case?

Any stereo headphones are as good as any "surround sound" fakery. It's all software simulation. All these headphones that are advertised as surround sound are indeed stereo. Two drivers = stereo.
I would just do what I always do - buy a good pair of heaphones from company who specialize at making good sounding headphones, not from cheap gaming peripherals makers.

I have the G933, they SUCK in sound quality (I only have them for for meetings etc.) compared to proper headphones.

Get beyerdynamic DT 770 PRO 80 Ohm instead.

The first time I heard ED through a surround system it was a eye-opener. Amazing what you miss listening to basic computer speakers/headphones!

Money that is best put towards VR and you would prefer not to wear any extrta headphones due to these devices. You are sadly missing out the best VR game in the world and realizing the vast huge expansive grand scale of this game which transforms your world - but fear not! Just be good and don't use VR for anything else...it can make you quite sickly if not careful.

Now imagine if you had some really high-end headphones man. Yes, it gets better. :D

What do you listen to? I'm kind of thinking of upgrading. With that said, the audio jack on my computer case is messed up and I need to use a headphone that hooks up via USB

I have the G633 (wired version of G933) and I agree E: D sounds great, without comparing it to external amps with optical connections.

I had not even thought of changing the audio settings in-game, thanks. I can tell you I turned on the DTS feature in the audio options and my headphones pumped-up another notch. [squeeeee] o7

The G933 is wireless via a USB dongle that looks for all the world just like a memory key (thumb drive). When being transported or stored it clips into the side of the headphones, pretty neat. Built-in boom mic, too and charges via a cell-phone type power cable (no, not Apple type). As far as quality goes, well, it was the best they had at the Best Buy and has several 4.5 out of 5 star ratings. I have 30 days to return it if anyone has solid data on better wireless headphones with built-in boom microphones. o7

Data, man, DATA . . . I checked at least two or three ratings articles . . . [noob]

Have been looking really hard at VR kits but the price IMO is still a bit "early-adopter" to me given the resolution. It is very cool, just waiting for the technology to improve another level . . . and the prices keep coming down . . .

Whoever said the sound quality on these was terrible, you're doing something wrong. These things are f r e a k i n g awesome. [up] They shake my ears, I mean they make my ears vibrate. I can feel these phones shaking and the sound of the FSD spooling up is giving me about half a chubby. An ORCA just took off suddenly from the pad next-door and I almost jumped out of my chair.

You might want to turn them down a bit - I'm surprised it's not painful at that kind of volume. Regardless, it ain't good for your ears!

The Beyerdynamic cans suggested above will be far superior, by the way.

A lot of people like the all in one convenience of a headset. But my next setup is going to be a pair of something like a decent quality Sennheiser headphones and a stand-alone studio mic or something, with a pop filter. I've had too many headsets fail or fall apart for too long, I'd rather get long term quality.

Beware though it has a noticeably worse microphone quality compared over the G35. Any half decent headset/ headphone will provide more detailed sound than some pc 5.1 speakers.

I did read one review that said the reviewer had some difficulty with perceived microphone quality, turned out in his case the problem was an in-game microphone adjustment. Once properly adjusted in-game, for him the problem went away.

Checked out the Beyerdynamic MMX300 Manufaktur headphones, those seem to be Beyerdynamics high-end gaming headset/mic setup offering and . . . it's wired . . . and it's "starting at" $369. I just went from a $40 headset to a $140 headset, enough sticker-shock for one day!

I've had the Logitech G930 7.1 wireless headset for almost two years now. They still work very well with decent battery life and they are much better than stereo.

Ignore the haters. There's always something better, but be happy with what you have.

I got the G633s a couple of months back, and I love them. My cheapo (basic one) Sennheiser was way out-classed.

Being USB/software-driven, you can make EQ adjustments too.

I'm no audiophile, but they do sound absolutely great to me in E: D

I'm willing to step up and give that a try. I've got a G933 which I generally like, though it squeezes my head like it thinks there's a toy inside.

Is that the exact set to get? There seem to be a number of different Ohm ratings available, and also other model numbers (990, 880). Is the 770 Pro 80 the best one to get to compare and contrast with the 933?

Also, they'll be plugged in to a Soundblaster OmniSurround. Though now that I've switched from 3 GPU's to 1, I can now fit an internal sound card... I might have to think about that also.

dak.

Dolby Headphone and DTS Headphone X for Logitech G933 are profram of encoding methods. They transform surround sound from your movies or games into 2 channels so that your stereo headphones can simulate surround sound from just 2 drivers.

Those 2 are competing companies, their simulation and sound signatures change a little(even even they are trying to perform the same goals). You just have to pick a superior sounding one to your ears(everyone's ears are different). As for the surround effectiveness, test them both out with your favorite games and decide from that.

I personally find DTS Headphone X sounds much better than Dolby when it comes to music. I haven't tested them out with games yet, so it may be a different story with different applications.
