Logitech X56 Vs Thrustmaster t16k with throttle for VR

I just picked up this game and am currently playing with a PlayStation game pad. I plan on picking up either the Logitech or thrustmaster hotas. I was leaning towards Logitech but then learned about issues with ghost button presses with the throttle.

Has anyone used the thrustmaster stick and throttle in VR? my main concern are the Buttons on the base of the joystick as I won’t be able to see them with a VR headset on. Any issues with mapping your controls?

I use a saitek x56.
1) powered usb. 3.0 hub for the throttle.
2) turn lighting down.
And you'll have a perfect hotas no ghosting. Broke mine recently parts on their way.

I am using the T16000m HOTAS in VR. You are correct that the buttons on the base are essentially useless for time critical stuff, but can be used for things such as raising and lowering landing gear. On the plus side, I really like the throttle - everything is very accessible on that one. There is also the issue of the potentiometer of the twist action being prone to jitter, but if you are not afraid of opening it up and performing some hands-on maintenance, then it can be made to work out fine (or you might just be lucky not to have that problem at all).

If the potentiometer of my stick finally gives in, I will probably just buy a different stick and keep the throttle.

I used the x56 for quite some time in VR. Ghost button presses can be an issue, but for me it happens very, very rarely. As far as not seeing the throttle, it's no issue. It does take time to learn, but once you do, it's pretty natural.
I recommend you acclimate yourself to the throttle outside of VR. Once you are no longer looking at your reference card while playing, then have a go at VR.

I'll second this but take it a little further...

Once you no longer have to THINK about what's mapped where, you're good to TRY VR. Once you no longer look at the throttle base when reaching for any control on it then, only then, are you good for the full VR experience with it. I've had my X56 for just over a month now and I'm almost to the point where every control in my custom bindings is "muscle memory", but I'm not quite there. I'd not want to be wearing a VR headset all the time in the game quite yet.

I'm 100% VR and I find using the x56 intuitive. Easily played with headset on. Only thing I struggle with is typing using a keyboard.
I find the hotas buttons easily.
I will say the 2 hats on the throttle are hard to use.
And the stick is too long in height to use top hat easily.
Apart from that the x56 is perfect for elite

I vote for the T16k FCS because it has less hardware issues. The throttle has plenty of convenient buttons but the stick not so much. What I did to make it work well in VR is I paired it with voice commands. That way I don't need as many buttons. The software for the T16k is better, it's just as accurate, not ghosty and the price is less than half of the x56 on a good deal.

The problem with the potentiometer is what's going to cause me to go with a different joystick. I'm on my second Thrustmaster this year, going to have to contact Thrustmaster again. I really like the feel of the Thrustmaster but don't like having to get a new one every few months.

Warthog with a good set of rudder pedals is still the best option if you can afford it.

I mean a GOOD set of rudder pedals - like MFG Crosswinds

The best are the Slaw device pedals but I don't even know if you can still get them.

Add Voice Attack with HCS Astra vioce pack and plugin EDDI to go along with it and ED gets taken to a whole new level.

Cheers

Now to save for that new Samsung G9 Odyssey monitor and a 3080Ti...

At the moment it is impossible to buy a new Logitech G X56 RGB in the UK but I am on a few waiting lists. While researching it I have come across several posts saying that it needs a powered USB hub. In my PC I have 1 x USB 3.0 and 1 x USB 3.1 connections but if these are no good for some reason then which powered USB hub do you use?.

OP
I use the tm16k hotas in VR. (And used to be a saitek user. But mine was a piece of poo.).
The buttons on the base of the tm joystick are textured and dimpled to distinguish the front and back and the middle of the three front buttons - two dimples instead of one. I map them all. Takes a bit of getting used to when 'blind' in VR, but that is all.
BTW you may want to get some silicone grease for the throttle. (Note I said silicone grease.). Main issue with that is 'static friction'.

I use an aukey usb 3.0 powered hub bought in 2017 for my x55 and never had any ghosting

OP, make sure you get the correct X56(the logitech one, not the old stock by was it madcatz?)
I think logi has grey decals and previous had blue.

If only warthog had twist :(

The logitech (grey) one is definitely better made.
I've an old one. A saitek. I'd like a new one but their expensive.
Can't big up the old one cos I broke my stick grrrr..
But when it was working it was damn near perfect no ghosting at all once I'd followed the steps..

Don't ! 🤫 :ROFLMAO:
X55 gone wrong 3 times, fixed 3 times, not again

1)All wiring in throttle started breaking, soldered all of them(they're small) , bad design : As throttle goes back and forth the wires slowly deteriorate.
2)Twist spring in joystick broke, no one would sell me the assembly to replace it(spring and other stuff in one body)
Bought a broken X55 from eBay,joystick was good)
3)Another button on throttle now not working properly, yet to fix

My saviour has been my stream deck(look in sig) :)

I got tired of replacing bad sticks, three T16K and one X56 later and I've already spent more than the VKB cost. I gave up and upgraded.

The Saitek version of the X56 lasted me about 8 months of heavy use, the Logitech version of the X56 has lasted over a year but was starting to creak had some switches that only worked sporadically. The VKB/Warthog throttle has been solid for about 5 months now. Will need to last a full two years to reach price parity.
