General / Off-Topic LOL - ED featured in UFO conspiracy video

First of all That isnt a Klingon, That is a photo of me.

I love Science and Science fiction.

UFO conspiracy bleeb isnt Science or Science fiction and people who take it 'seriously' are unhinged IMHO.

When i was 10 years old i was very much into the UFO scene, BigFoot, Ghosts, Psuedo science and then one day something clicked in my head. 'The light of reason'.

I started sourcing my information, checking facts and reading materials on actual science and it wasnt long before i come to the conclusion that ufology is nothing but exaggeration, misrepresentation and outright lies.

It is a subject to be viewed with (at least) humour and (at most) scorn.

If you watch it for fun without taking it seriously.... Then humour... If you defend it and rattle your tin foil hat, then scorn.

and of course if you are 10 years old..... you get a pass.

The video in this tread is pure made up, that being said there is a lot going on we can't explain or maybe don't want to explain.
just rejecting by ridiculing people is not constructive and just show ignorance (not saying you are).

A reasonable mind does not fill unknown spaces or gaps in our knowledge with Gods and monsters.

Show me irrefutable evidence of extraterrestrial visitation to this planet.... or that Elvis Presley is still alive and you have a believer in me.

All idea's deserve criticism, if the evidence is sound then it holds its own against that criticism. it is a filter that every concept should have to pass through before it is accepted. (look at the scientific method as the highest example of this)

Once upon a time people believed in....punished and killed, witches, warlocks, warewolves and the only filter used was unsubstantiated rumor and hearsay. Today we have UFO conspiracy, Anti-Vax, 911, chemtrails, fake moon landings, etc. But the difference here and now is that we have already passed through the age of reason and the social filter of scepticism is largely established.

Would you rather be fooled by these conspiracy people? Have your time and focus drawn away from the truth, dragged down a rabbit hole of baseless conspiracy when you could be using that time to learn about real things backed up by testable evidence.

--

If you enjoy the UFO scene then do, and do so with a pinch of salt. DO NOT give the perpetrators of these ideas an easy time, If there is truth in their words then it needs to be refined out of the nonsense with healthly doses of scepticism and a demand for definitive evidence.

If they shut you down, quote 'God of the gaps' or censor you then they have nothing to offer.

Im not religious but the behavior of the UFO conspiracy crowd IMHO is exactly the same as the faithful.

people need wonders and mysteries to be aved and astounded. they need thrill, and fear, they need a lot of things and capable to go insane length to get it. For me? I say the existing real mysteries wonders and horrors are just enough. At least in this case i have a chance to unravel, and understand see touch and taste them, or fight against it. You cannot fight against a non existing enemy after all... But a real threat? :)

Agreed.

'God of the gaps'

Aye! to think, just because you know nothing about it there is god? Is stupid. But to say, there can be something? That's not so stupid. A good mystery can keep your curiosity and thus your desire to understand alive, and keep going. ;)

Edit; One of my favorite scenes from Terry Pratchett. :)
