LOL pirate

Got interdicted by a Cmdr in a Cobra, same as what I fly. I thought, ooh this could be fun!

Message: cut you engines and prepare to be scanned.

Excellent I thought, let's do this, I open fire and the pirate just legs it. I take his shields down for good measure and he jumps away.

I return to cruise to see him flying round looking for someone else. So message - not today eh??

Response: I don't like fighting.

I nearly wet myself laughing. Seemed a really nice chap though, chatted a little but the killer line was :

The best pirates don't need weapons.

I was laughing so much I couldn't respond.

The Cmdr is prob right and the best pirates don't, but I reckon the successful ones do - lol.

Anyway, big respect to that Cmdr, if you read this, if you interdict me again - I'll donate some cargo to your cause. Thanks for lighting up today's grind.

Reminds me of when I was flying my Asp round Lave looking for loot - it's a big red thing with a skull on it - a cobra interdicted me slowly pulled up and proceeded to scan without a word ! the audacity ! I asked if he had any loot and he said no so I blew him up.

I like lol pirate stories.

Here's one (may want to skip ahead to 2:15ish) from a while back:

Well he is right, you don't need guns to pirate. However, you shouldn't target players in ships on par with yours, if you don't have superior firepower.

Yesterday it finally happened, in one of my more rare visits to Open, I finally got interdicted by a real Commander. After having read in these forums how all pirates are now honourable and will ask nicely for cargo, I was a little intrigued on how this would go. So I submitted to the interdiction (BTW I am in a fully kitted out Vulture with dual pulse lasers). Dropped out of SC, decided to 'play the game' so didn't even deploy hardpoints, just slowed down to a dead stop. Next thing I saw the message pop up "Give me all your cargo". This is how the conversation went:

Pirate: Give me all your cargo
Me: Umm I don't have any
Pirate: You have to have some cargo
Me: Nope, nil, cargo scan me if you want to check
Pirate: I don't have a cargo scanner
Me: Well how do you know what cargo you are pirating
Pirate: Just give me your cargo or I will destroy you.

.. by now he is about 500m directly in front of me, in a Cobra

Me: Are you sure you can do that, I am in a better ship
Pirate: Look <insert naughty word> just give me your <another naughty word> cargo
Me: I honestly don't have any
Pirate: Everyone has cargo, drop it now or I will blow you away
Me: Nope no cargo, will you take traveller's cheques?
Pirate: <A string of poorly spelt naughty words casting doubt on the legitimacy of my parents wedding and my sexual behaviour>
Me: Mate, give it up, go find some NPCs <getting bored by now>

He then opens fire, turns wanted, I grin, take his shield down way too quickly (guess he had the stock standard shield generator), then decide to have some fun so I targeted his canopy. See that hit 0% in about 30 seconds. Depart the scene to the lovely comments of him abusing me again and calling me a hacker lol

Kind of hope he made it back in the 5 minutes but I kind of doubt it

Please tell me the standard pirate in open is a little smarter than that lol

Sounds like a weekend pirate. Real pirates probably wouldn't target a vulture or a viper or a eagle. No cargo worth the investment of time.

The canopy isn't a targetable subsystem, so maybe you were hacking.

Pirates like any profession have weak links as well as strong ones. So many traders I pull over don't even know how to eject cargo. Not even just the small ships. How you ever get to an asp or type 7 without learning that is beyond me.

However, If I had to guess I'd say it was that pirates first day on the job.

Sorry to disappoint someone trying to stand up for the pirate federation!

As I said, we were parked nose to nose during the 'parlay', when he opened fire on me he didn't move, and I had no need to with the power of my weapons. I could clearly see the canopy so that is what I aimed at.

Or are you going to call me a hacker again?

It's more of a pirate's union than a federation.

Second, you said you saw it reach 0%, that implies you were targeting a subsystem. If you said you saw it crack, I wouldn't have mentioned anything. Does the cracked glass show to other people?

I don't think so, based on a friendly fight to the death I had with a guy while both of us were flying Couriers. Both of us had our canopies smashed during the fight and neither of us noticed the other's until we were back at the starport swapping stories.

I guess you can blow out the canopy by destroying the Life support,
every interdiction dealt a lot of damage to that thingy in 1.2.

Morbad up for a test with the cracked glass?

My first venture into pirating a while ago was to interdict a shield less t6 whilst in my python.

I assumed I had killed my throttle as cargo scanned him. He dissapeared of my target selections so I aassumed he was doing a runner so boosted after him.

You can tell what happened next. Rammed him as he was stationary

Took most of his hull. Felt so bad I would have given him cargo if had any.

Decided piracy wasn't for me.

Module damage is line-of-sight based so just soft aim for the canopy and you'll hit it, even if you're targeting something behind it. This is why the canopy breaks so often during shield-less combat, if you and the enemy are aiming weapons directly at each other you're both lined up perfectly to shoot each other in the face. Since I got the Anaconda I haven't had a single canopy breach from weapons fire, because I'm not sitting right in the nose and the power plant is "underneath" me, if myself and the enemy are looking each other in the eye. Wouldn't want to be in the crew lounge during combat though.
