Lone Echo

I picked up a copy, but haven't played yet. I don't want to get hooked into a new game right before I need to take care of some big IRL things, but it'll be waiting for me when I'm ready.

My question is how long does the play-through generally run? It'll help me plan accordingly. :)

I have finished it four times or so now ;)

First run through i would say about 7-8 hours.
But if you start hunting for all optional objectives you can easily bump that considerably.
A caveat with that though is continued zooming around and leaving, returning between areas can leave a save file corrupted that resulted to me in crashes.

And once a save is corrupt only fix would be to reload from a point before it got that way.

They might however have patched this since I played last though.

OK cool. I'll just assume it'll be 10 hours or a little more. I can be a bit of a completionist sometimes, but not always, so I'll probably hit at least a few of the optional objectives, if not all. Thanks!

Also just putting this here.
Lone Echo was exceedingly RAM hungry.

First game I seen using 10GB of system RAM and 10GB on the GPU.
That's with some fairly high setting though.

Well Lone Echo is released and I'm about an hour into the campaign. I have to say, I'm completley blown away. This is how zero g should be. I almost don't want to see Elite go there if they can't hit this benchmark. It's fantastic. The integration of environmental movement and menus with proper puzzle style maintenance gameplay is so immersive and feels so fluid.

Anyone else pick this up? I truly hope Frontier is watching and learning from this one.

How could Elite ever go there while having coffee makers on fed ships unless...?

I thought Lone Echo and Echo Arena were two different games? I've played Echo Arena, that's the free Oculus game. I haven't bought Lone Echo. So... Which game is this thread about? The first few posts seem to imply Echo Arena...

Lone Echo is the full, story driven game where you play a repair droid assisting the captain of a space station orbiting Saturn while Echo Arena is a free frisbee-goal-scoring eSports thing which uses the same graphics and zero-g locomotion model. I didn't really get on with Echo Arena (multiplayer eSports not really my thing) but Lone Echo itself was absolutely stunning.

Same, wanted to voice my opinion too. Lone Echo is brilliant... love the banter/interaction with Olivia. She's so well voiced and animated - great motion capture and animation blending (she can talk, perform a task and flick away your hands all in one fluid motion - I use her as a handhold sometimes :p ).
Outside really feels big - looking for the little cube sats goal was good fun and let you explore. Haven't got them all yet.

I hope space legs for Elite uses this as a benchmark for the locomotion. Sadly, I think that's be a hard task given its much less than 1% with VR and even less with Touch or Vive wands.

When someone says they'll wait till gen 2 before getting VR cause it's not graphically good enough, I say float around the station with Olivia in Lone Echo and tell me that again with a straight face.

Well, that's what I thought. Meaning that I've read the description of Lone Echo as a story and it didn't strike me as any relation to Echo Arena at all. I presume then that Lone Echo is basically a story using the same engine/movement etc. as Echo Arena? I've never actually played a game of Echo Arena (i.e. an actual match), but I've spent far too long kicking about the matchmaking hall and playing in the fighting pit and other areas there. I thought it was very well done, so might be tempted on Lone Echo now.

I said that after trying the Vive for a few weeks. Then the Rift went on sale, and at that price it was a no brainer. Interestingly, I find the Rift much better for playing E: D. With the Vive it was really difficult to make out the menu text and HUD stuff - no such problem with the Rift. Though I am also keeping an eye on the Pimax 8k. :)
