Long Distance Exploration Crusader - Loadout Suggestion

If I were to take Alliance Crusader on a long extended exploration trip, would this load out work?

https://is.gd/iizNux

I realize I dont have shield. Mainly because I cannot fit a SRV so I wont be trying to land on Planet surface but use SLF to closer look at any POI. I will have over 50 refills for AFMU, Limpet, Life Support synth.

I would ditch the fighter hanger but that’s just me.
I just got done with a 22Kly trip over the past two days, I could send you my load out if you’re interested? (It’s a different ship but it’ll give you an idea of what I used)

I picked Crusader because of the SLF or else it would have been the Challenger. My thinking, I can't seem to fit a lower class shield generator to take a SRV. So since I am going shield less , the SLF makes sense for those POI close inspection moments without putting the ship at risk during extreme landing.

I would be interested to see your loadout and hopefully learn something I don't know yet.

That’s what I’ve been using for exploration. Out of those 22Kly I never landed on a planet, just didn’t feel like it. Only used the detailed surface scanner on Water Worlds (available for terraforming) and Earth Like Worlds. Only used the FSS when the system was undiscovered. Something about seeing “CMDR PUFFYYOGURTHOLE” plastered across the galaxy just tickles my insides haha.

I would suggest to switch gFSDb with the fuel scoop, still jumps 42ly, but will scoop a lot faster...
Oh, and, if I remember correctly, A rated afmu repairs better than B rated :)

This thing is going to try to crusade to Ishum's Reach. Would you still suggest switching the Class 5 GFSB to Class 3 for a faster Fuel Scoop? With ~41 Ly jump range + Premium Jumponium, is there a chance I will still reach Ishum's?

For the AFMU, I was going for higher Integrity and Ammo capacity of B rated AFMU since I cannot fit a second AFMU. Also I am not really intending to Neutron Boost.

Are you taking the mining laser to collect mats? You could fit a Planetary Vehicle Hangar if you drop the cargo rack then you could drop the mining laser too.

I agree with sticking with a B class AFMU, and unless you're racing there is no need to pack the biggest Fuel Scoop. I've also never brought an A rated scoop for any of my ships other than long distance racers :)

I managed to find this, which suggests the minimum jump range required is 82.68Ly

I am taking the Cargo Rack to store the Limpets. I was told without a Cargo rack I cannot synth Limpets. Is it still correct? Since I am not taking any shield, making sure that I have enough Limpets to repair my hull seemed like a must have.

Mining laser is only for emergency, just in case I run out of mats. Although I have loaded up enough mats for couple dozens synths for AFMU Refill, Limpets and Jumponium. I also do not have space for SRV so counting on mining laser for unthinkable.

Great info! Currently my ship has 44.37 ly jump range based on the in-ship stats. According to Premium Jumponium it should give me +100% jump range. That should get to 88 ly jump range. On paper looks like I am set?

Ah of course, I forgot about needing to store the limpets.

If that range is correct, and I don't see any reason to doubt them, then I would say you are. Just bear in mind that it gets very tricky around that area to find a route through, it took me a bit of planning in my Asp with a 60Ly range, so don't get too frustrated and take your time.

Safe travels Cmdr o7

If you need a 82+ Ly jump to Ishums and you can get that with a 3aGFSDB, yes, I would definitely take the 6a scoop (or 6b if Cr is an issue)
You may try the 3a for a short 1k trip first, but I sometimes get the need to move fast to see progress on the galaxy map and with a 6a you don't need to stop at all between jumps.
Still when not in a hurry, for me the scoop should be at least even in class to the fsd.
AFAIK, every kind of dmg you may get in the dark is a percentage of integrity so more doesn't help,
Pls, correct me someone if I'm wrong. :)
therefor a A-class afmu for me ;)
Also, when your only afmu gets to 0% chance is high your power plant is aswell, so you are in bigger trouble than the lack of a second afmu :)

Took the crusader out for a test scoop session with 3A scoop. Yes, I have to agree it is slooow. I had to orbit the sun a bit to top off 16T tank. If i drop the Hanger and equip a 6A scoop I can easily reach ~45 ly jump range. So knowing this, I am going to drop the hanger for now and take 6A scoop. I see on eddb 5D flight hanger is available in Colonia. I can always fit it there, assuming the eddb is correct. I hear modules are hard to come by in Colonia.

Could you explain this little more what does it mean by damages are % based? Do you mean the # of Integrity count has no bearing and the damage is purely % based regardless of the size of the modules? Does this also apply to Armored PP?

After much preparation, tweaking, training, tweaking again, ADRI is left the nest and has ventured out to visit Colonia. Here is the final loadout I have settled on:

Final inspection. Looks we are ready.

I am going to manually plot segment of courses to Colonia. I have engineered everything I may need in Colonia. So just going to do transfer all the needed modules. I was surprised that all Alliance and mostl other ships are available in Colonia except Imperial. At least this is what I found from EDDB. The Carcosa system seems to be one stop shopping place for ships.

Thanks to everyone who provided tips to polish my loadout for the Crusader!

Looks nice, but you dropped the SFL? Why Crusader then?
Without SLF, Chieftain is waaaay better in everything bar one. It misses the Spoiler

Yes, after much thinking I decided to drop the SLF for now. Because the ultimate destination is Ishum's Reach via Colonia for a pit stop. I decided not to look around at this moment but get there sooner so it is done. With real life responsibilities any sight seeing right now will prolong the actual trip.

Also my gameplay is to own no more than 2-3 ships for a very long time and use the ship I really like despite of their shortfall. Krait mk2 gives me everything I do in the game without much challenge. I would not mind making it my only main ship but I hate the cockpit. :D
I love all Alliance ship looks and sound. Settled with Crusader because of SLF. Right now I have been using Krait only as workhorse to generate Credit while engineering Crusader piece by piece. I will use it in Colonia full time before i decide if i need to transfer/buy Krait there. Krait is also engineered currently to suit my need.

You can move all the modules from the Crusader to the Chieftain, except the bulkheads. And the spoiler ofc :)
You are very right. Just a quick check on EDSY reveals how similar they are. So in a way I just finished engineering 2 ships at once. :D
Similar load out of Crusader that I have ventured out with show ~50 ly jump range with Chieftain. Not bad for a combat focused ship.
May be a chieftain will replace my DBX as my personal ship. Ohh can't believe I just said that!!:eek::eek:
I am so far away from home right now hopefully my DBX did not hear it.
