Newcomer / Intro long distance travel/best fit for journey

Hi all,

i may be asking questions already answered however im getting a little stuck on long distance travel,
to be precise im trying to get to a system 60 LY away.

in the galaxy menu i enter my loc and destination loc and attempt to plot route, however the icon is shaded red. at first i accept this and tried finding a place on route closer to myself which proved extremely hard and still came up with red plot. after fumbling around for 10-15 mins the system had finally allowed me to plot a course to this said location going via multiple systems. amazing ! being a nub i ran out of fuel. boo hoo :( self destruct and start again. except now i cant plot route like problem at beginning.

I truly hope one of you can tell me im being a complete moron and need to do x y z in order to plot route easily and would appreciate it.

another question is to do with fuel scoops.
i did set out with a fuel scoop but when i fitted it i chose that instead of cargo. would someone be able to suggest to me a good layout for adding fuel scoops potentially leaving cargo free but not crippling my ship or losing shields?

all feedback welcome please excuse my spelling

well ive noticed its not very popular this question. does anyone know of anyone else who has posted this they could send me a link too?

It could be the destination is not reachable because the longest 'leg' is longer than your maximum jump range, hence showing the route as 'red'. You seem to know you need to string a series of jumps together. Assuming you're in a Sidewinder, I think the maximum jump distance might be 7 or 8Ly. What's drawing you to jump to 60Ly away? Could you just start off making single jumps and seeing how you get on and manually thread through? Make sure you stick to inhabited systems to refuel (or buy a fuel scope). The Gal Map should allow route plotting even through unexplored systems. I'm not sure what the maximum end-to-end distance for route plotting is. I've done trips with 5 or 6 legs in a Cobra, so probably 30/40Lys.

adam thankyou ill try that out tomorrow and johnny i would agree with you on the leg scenario but it confuses me at how it accepted my planned route after countless times refusing it. this was done in a side winder but now in an eagle still has same drama. and honest answer. no reason other than abit of data collecting ;) and as for fuel scoop what would you take out in order to place it on the ship? is there a way to but extra slots for more items?
