Since things are being worked out Odyssey, it would be nice if the probes could have an extreme long range for the purpose of scanning the bodies with HUGE rings. The "slingshot" method works sometimes but a lot of the planets that I find with huge rings, the inner edge is beyond the range of the current probe. Maybe something like supercharging the probe could be a thing. Just a thought.

Increasing the max distance, that limits how close to the planet you have to be, before being able to launch the probes. Would be an option?

distance from planet and angle to the ring can help a lot with this. You can also just increase the range of your probes and planets of any size or ring orientation stop being a problem. I find being right online with the ring is the best. I like when the ring is going "up and down" but my friend prefers if the ring is going "left to right"
Think they are talking about the "mega" ring, usually c ring. That's sometimes too far from the planet to hit with detail surface scan probes.
I have yet to come across a ring that couldn't be hit but I also don't scan rings much.
