Long Smuggling Mission Observation
So my son and I have been flying these missions pretty hard this weekend, and a couple of interesting issues have popped up in different ships. This isn't a thread to suggest which is the better smuggler, just a few observations/issues we noticed.
Cobra, great ship, and fast, but in this mission envelope it has to have a shield and scoop. My son ran a shield less Cobra, and got popped by an NPC FDL (one shot did critical damage) so a shield is now a must. Problem is that once you get a shield and scoop on a Cobra, her cargo goes down to 28 (we get 36 on a DBE), so she becomes limited in that capacity. She's pretty good getting in and out of stations, but a heat sink is almost always needed at military outposts and larger stations.
The DBE is somewhat limited by its cargo, but 36 is all I've ever needed (my son differs in this opinion, well somewhat). We both agree that if you truly have to get from point A to point B undetected with 20+ cargo, this is best ship. Jump range full (36t) is 29+, and even though she's limited by 347ms top speed, it's still enough to boost away (scan and escape) from NPC's. Still have to use a heat sink at military outposts, but just running silent will get you into any other station.
The Asp (which used to be my sons only smuggler) has the best cargo and jump range, but she also gets scanned the most if you're not overly careful. She also has one HUGE disadvantage in this mission envelope, she requires a medium pad. A lot (maybe half) of these missions run to platforms, and three times this weekend, my son got a fine (and shot at) because he couldn't get an open pad at a platform. Fines used to be no big deal, but he took a pretty serious hit on his rep, so be careful.
Anyway, just observations from two goofballs flying WAY TO MUCH this weekend.
