Long time casual player seeking knowledge

Howdy fellow commanders,

I've been flying on and off since well before Horizon even released. Although I've dabbled in a little bit of everything Im far from being an experienced commander.

I've tried many times, with little success, in recruiting other commanders to the cause for fighting the Thargoids (Their ships became cannon fodder rather repeatedly.)Got them to fight faction wars on multiple planets, and even blew up asteroids with seismic charges. Unfortunately they dont keep interest nearly as much as I have.

Now we are at present day. With the release of the Colonization system I have claimed a lovely bottom of space Synuefe YI-N B53-1. Im at a bit of a loss on how to do this as, even though I have many ships. I only have about 60 mil credits and Ive never once owned a Fleet Carrier. My question to those more knowledgeable than is... Should I stop trying to do this with a Type-9 Hauler and work towards an FC first or what? ( I work 5 10 hour days so play time is somewhat limited) I know in the past easiest way to make a decent income was passenger runs though I'm not sure if thats still the case. Ive been at this Construction thing for about 5 hours and barely at 2%. I cant imagine how long it'll take me to do this but I feel like an FC would significantly help me out.

If I dont get back to any of you, I thank you for the advice you give.

Howdy Commander, I, like yourself am a longtime player but never really made a billion nor own a carrier. As for your question on colonization, I found a good video on how to do it which I will post but essentially once you find a suitable area, build an outpost NOT a bigass station. It will require less materials and then you can later build big Coloriolis types or whichever you prefer.

I have the Type 9 hauler myself (I bought the Pre-Built) and it is fantastic, right now if you contribute to the community goal you can make several hundred million credits. I did it with my Type 9 and then also accepted to participate in the Defend part of the community goal. For that part, just go to any Resource extraction sight there in Minerva (or even the System NavBeacon) and be on the lookout for any ship that the cops are already fighting, just pop a few shots in and boom you're in business once you get back to Starlace Station there in Minerva system and turn in at least 1 bounty. It will count towards the community goal. Turning in just 1 bounty vouchers will net you 80 milion credits.

Best of luck commander! Oh, and do the Community event in SOLO mode.

Here is that video I spoke of earlier that kind of breaks it down real nice:

dont even attempt it yet there is a bug where after collecting everything for the station or outpost
nothing will be built or record of you taking part
itsa 50/50 gamble atm
dont say i did not warn you................

If you're working alone, a Fleet Carrier doesn't help all that much - especially right now, when there are big delays on moving them. Just using a T-9 is not all that much slower - you can probably get 10-20% faster with careful use of a FC, but that's all.

Question: what size station are you trying to build?
- if you're working alone, and picked anything other than a basic Tier 1 Outpost, you are going to have a really hard time of it: the bigger stuff is absolutely intended for groups
- you might be best off cancelling the claim, waiting for it to clear, then picking a new system and an Outpost template instead

(If you're trying to build an Outpost, then you should be able to get more than 2% in 5 hours with a T-9, so maybe there's something else you can get more efficient at?)

I'm not working on Colonization, not rich enough lol, I am grinding away at the Fed ranks to buy a Corvette using my Imperial Cutter around SOL.
If you need help hauling, my Cutter can move 630'ish and my Type 9 can haul 720. I will gladly give you a hand.

Quick update for yall on the advice, and I thank yall very much for it. I joined a group of pilots with varying degrees of skill and experience and decided to drop my system, I was originally attempting to build on Orbis (Which is a terrible idea for the first station.)

I have since been scouting new systems to claim but unfortunately got plagued with the bug that prevents me from claiming any system. So far now I guess I'll just wait a bit and hope I can claim a system later and start small.

Not sure what the bug is but it's likely due to the dropped system.

Not sure what your commitment to the game is or how much you play, but with careful consideration, you can can build an Outpost easily in about 10 hours of game time.

That being said, you will need a T-9 to do this as it has the best carrying capacity outside of the cutter. Also, pay attention to where you will get the supplies as this can really up the time it takes to build. It's crucial that aluminum, steel and titanium are close by in large quantities. A good source of these will also have copper, CMM composites and some other items that you need all in one place.

I was really lucky that I had a surface installation that had the largest quantities available only one jump away.
