Long time elite player, just got Oculus have questions

First is there a good tutorial / walkthrough anyone can recommend
Second, I am not seeing my HOTAS as a control option
Is there a way to change the menu controls back to mouse/keyboard while in vr
what is the easiest way to switch between vr and screen'

Hi have you installed this through Oculus? If not you should - seeing as your a long time user, you might be using your old installation. Save you spouse/local/options files! Then when you launch do it through Oculus Dash Desktop app and you should see the hotas.

As for switching back and forth I assume you mean in the same session. Can’t help you there, however from Oculus dash you can launch in pancake mode if you want.

Thanks for the reply, I did the reload, apparently I missed some of the bindings files and had to restore from a backup, which fixed the HOTAS. Great flying around in the ship, everything seems so much bigger. Have not figured a good way to use the Galactic map but useable

It’s all real size :), I stood up today, walked behind my chair irl which is the same size as the flight chair in the game and stood there with my hand on my virtual/real headrest and just watched in awe as I sped towards my destination. Absolutely incredible. Have fun re acquainting yourself with the game.

You can add a few keybinds to cover this, I have a digital ministick on my throttle that I use to move backwards/forwards/left/right and map another button as a modifier (like shift) so backwards/forwards become up/down. One of my hats moves between controls like tab, another across the pages of the left hand panel. The stick itself can convers rotations and zoom.
However, I also keep my mouse right next to the stick. Its often much faster. :)

I did exactly this when I first got my VR kit, and I've seen the same thing described so many times. It is a very strong experience.
Just don't do what I did, walked over to my AspX window and went headfirst into a door frame.

Lol, it’s n my asp I hit my head on the back wall trying to look down the hatch to the lower pilot seat.

also dropped a controller on the car seat next to me (that was not there) when playing a racing sim.

Mate!

It's good isn't it??

Regarding Gal Map.

One thing I have done and it has made a massive difference is to simplify it. Don't bother binding pitch (tilt). I have found I haven't missed it once.
Only worrying about the XYZ translation (XY on the joystick and Z on a couple of buttons) and then rotate (twist stick) and zoom (buttons or the rocker on the back of the throttle) seems to make it far more controllable.

Just for contrast, while Voice Attack is an amazing piece of software, it's not your only option. I used it for some time, but realized I prefer physical controls.
If that's the case for you, I suggest getting a controller with distinct buttons that you can easily find without looking (or even better, build one yourself!).
+1 for EDDI, it is indeed very helpful, even without Voice Attack.

Yeh, I use a Steam controller for the system and galaxy maps, and the camera.
