So using all my available willpower I had convinced myself that I was going to wait for release. But I just couldn't do it With all the good reports coming in since beta hit.
Jeez good job I'm not into drugs/gambling/smoking or they'd be no hope....
heard anything about game wiping?
Cos if they're gonna wipe our progress once it goes out , not sure if I want to invest so much time in this any more.

Its such a laborious job trading enough money to have any fun with the game, by the time you have enough you wont care any more, fly here buy this, fly there sell that, over and over and over and over and over.

You can be pretty certain that we'll get a wipe before Gamma starts. FD have said that once Gamma starts (unless something disastrous happens) we'll keep all Gamma progress into release.
So don't get too attached right now, but go for it once we're in Gamma

Don't get too attached to your stuff as there will be wipes.The scope of this game is huge so give it time.

Thanks for the welcome; I'm not worried about wiping, just having some fun and getting back some of the '80's good times in the original Elite x100...
Have fun and the better you get the easier it will be after the last reset!
Could you please stop moaning? We have already understood that the game is not as simple as you expected it to be. But you cannot master this game the first day you play it. The more I play the more fun I have.
E.g.:
I was enjoying the Viper but could not afford the hull upgrades 200K-512K. So I have bought a Lakon to trade. Then the prices were modified. While checking the new prices of the ships I have sold my Lakon to find out that I cannot afford it anymore so I had to buy a Cobra to trade. Crashed into the advertising displays near the station, paid insurance and was able to trade and recover the losses when the station has disappeared. And I have crashed into invisible wall of the station this time losing everything. Restarted with basic Sidewinder and 3904Cr. But this only made me stronger. I went to the combat zone and started destroying enemies one by one at about 2.5 enemies per minute. Made 200K+ in 4-5 hours. Bought Cobra, then Lakon 6 and now I have 1.5M Cr.

Haha, I caved when I saw the very first alpha gameplay
Yes there will be a wipe before gamma, but don't worry - the journey is just as fun as the destination - plus the starter ship + weaponry is actually decent. You can fight, you can trade, you can explore. You'll want to upgrade soon enough of course, and the first couple upgrade options don't take too long to get.
If you got in early you'll have a number of starting options when the game is released.

Well, first couple of hours under my belt; spent an hour configuring controls, a couple of jumps to nearby systems, lots of super-cruise, some guy in an Eagle tried to jump me so I had my first kill more through luck than judgement (luckily he was even more of a nub than me), lost 810 credits in ship repairs from said encounter but had a bloody good time.
This is excellent fun and will only get better once I figure out how everything works...
