Newcomer / Intro Long time motivation?

Hi!
I'm am considering whether I should buy elite dangerous.
I am waiting for a game like this for a long time (I tried EVE Online, but the control isn't my).
The trailers and the pictures look nice and and especially the cockpit view is realy nice.

But, does this game have a long term motivation? :S

After all I heard it is more a simulation game as an arcade game, but I read that for example the economy system is in best case rudimentary.
Is this true?

Which big goals does this game have (without to reach the elite rank)?
Are you able to build your own space stations?
Can players create their own factions and become a superpower?
Or is it possible to to take control on an existing faction/superpower?
Does only the few space ships which are shown on the homepage exist (that wouldn't be much...)?
Is it possible to control big battleships like the ones you see in some of the trailers?
Does an autopilot exist? I am very bad in reaching my destination in space. :D

And a last question. Who do you play?
Do you shoot everything you see (for example as a mercenary) or do you fly from sun system to space system as a scout?

It would be great if you could help me.
I just do not want to buy a game I do not enjoy.

Thanks in advance!

Best wishes

. ...just buy the game and find out for yourself.....its not that expensive....

First of all, have you read some reviews? The ones I know describe it pretty well.
Alright, let's do this ;)

-----------------

Is this true?
I don't really know. Haven't invested much time in it.

Which big goals does this game have (without to reach the elite rank)?
None.

Are you able to build your own space stations?
No.

Can players create their own factions and become a superpower?
No.

Or is it possible to to take control on an existing faction/superpower?
No.

Does only the few space ships which are shown on the homepage exist (that wouldn't be much...)?
17 ships right now. 25 are planned.

Is it possible to control big battleships like the ones you see in some of the trailers?
An Anaconda is pretty big?

Does an autopilot exist? I am very bad in reaching my destination in space.
No.

Who do you play?
Me? Space bum. With guns.

-----------------------

Now, you might wonder - with all those Nos - why anyone (me, others) has been playing this constantly for the past almost 4 months (longer, in many cases)
I have no clue! :D On a more serious note, read this

I have raked up more hours (probably close to 500) playing this game already than I did with skyrim, and I am nowhere near the top ship. As for value for money, it beats every game I have ever played since the original elite, and I would include free games in that list

It will probably take 10hrs+ to have the vaguest clue about how you want to play it, and I have spent similar money on games that were pretty much dead after 10hrs. Good thing or bad thing is entirely your opinion.

Thanks for your answers.

I read no reviews. I made bad experiences with it...

It looks like this game is nothing for me. I need something I can work for.
For me, reaching a rank is boring and useless.
I need something else (like making much money with industry, buying my own space station and become a superpower with my faction).

Well, once more thanks for your time.
I wish you fun and a good hunt!

ED is all about one man in a ship against a huge and uncaring galaxy. It is not about empire building. If you think of it in Game of Thrones terms; you are not the leader of a great family, or even a member of a great family. You are a man with a sword on an old knackered horse. One day, you might have a better horse (maybe several horses), some armour and a biggar sword. All you have to do is survive. Oh and yes, you are probably on Arya's list and on top of that, it's raining.

It sounds like you just want to play Eve to be honest.

The main goal of Elite is to rank up your status for Combat, Trade and Exploration but the main short-term goal is the acquisition of wealth and it is up to the player how they earn their money by choosing their own career path (Trading, Bounty Hunting, Exploration, Pirating etc.).

What Frontier have done is provide an accurate simulation of our known galaxy. If you travel to the Sol system all of the stars are accurately mapped so you can recognise constellations - then visit them.

The game is also actively being worked on and they have some really exciting plans for the future.
