Longest time in the black? Post your exploration duration.

I am a fledgling explorer making may way to sagittarius a* with the target of staying out in the black for the next 6 months if my Asp E holds together. What is the longest time period other commanders have been on the exploration trail? Has anyone spent 12 months alone in the black, kept their sanity and returned safely to the bubble?

As of today I have been out in my sidewinder for 33 weeks (231 days)...since I left before 2.0 dropped I am currently buckyballing back to the bubble to try and enjoy such new fangled things like SRVs and planetary bases and engineers. There have definitely been Cmdrs who have been out longer than a year but I'll leave them to talk about that!

i have set out 5 month and 16 days longest (16th of december - shortly after horizons, returned 28th of may - shortly after engineers), but as frawd has said - there are people out much longer.

my first sag a* trip took me 3 1/2 weeks.

also, i have two acconts.

Let's be honest: not many LEFT with their sanity, finding it while out there was always a remote possibility.

I think I've done 2 x 5 month trips now. Lawks.

Same. however ive been "alone" since march this year. its very quiet out in the stellar clouds of the outer galactic arm, sometimes i get excited when i see fellow pilots 20kly away but most are just buckyballing back to population.

I think it depends how much someone plays Elite. If someone plays like a few hours per week, it takes him forever to get anywhere, while a dedicated player can get to the edge of the galaxy in 2 days. My longest out has been about 2 weeks, but I must have spend at least 100 hours or so on that trip. A player who only plays like 2 hours a day/14 hours a week would have taken 2 months for the same trip. While I would like to spend months out of the bubble, it just doesn't work for me considering how much time I spend in the game :) Sometimes I do some breaks of maybe a couple of months though. How active do you have to be so it counts? Because I didn't play Elite for like 6 months and my ship was parked about 15k LY from the bubble, does that count as having been out in the black for 6 months? :)

Edit: What I was trying to say is, I know it's easier to count weeks or months, but it would make more sense to count the hours spend playing the game in the black. Instead of counting like 2 weeks inactivity as having been out that long.

I departed Santjalan on 3rd September, so currently at 315 days and counting.

I'm hoping I can complete my planned trip in less than two years but that's not guaranteed...

Best part of 300klys travelled over 13k+ systems. I play a lot, but I scan a fair number of bodies too, get distracted by the forums occasionally and invest time in setting up pictures fairly regularly.

started to play ED in Sept'3301, went "out" 14 of Jan'3302 (so tomorrow its 6 month) travelled more than 100KLy and still have around 50 Kylies to get back
(without a possible detour to visit Jacque ;) )

"kept their sanity"
...speaking for myself... there's nothing to keep what wasnt there :D

and I think - as long as you dont want to compete - it doesnt matter that much if played a lot or just a little,
all players who are "out" for quite some time misses new content available or feel otherwise isolated (what may be on purpose of course :D)

Tomorrow (14 July) is the six month anniversary of my leaving the Bubble.

I am hoping to be out a full year. Longer if I can face it...the Borderlands are calling me.

Me? I left with the DWE expedition and am still way out on Beagle Point 2. I had ambitions to do a pole-to-pole SRV mapping trip but the grind and the monotony (ie: stupidity) of doing it is wearing me down . . . It hasn't helped that a cursed mountain has been discovered IN the Bubble which has drawn the attention of my alt-account Commander . . .

About two months is the longest I've been out I think - once when I took the Sonnenkreis in a long loop around the "west" of the galaxy and once with Whitespace II on my first DWE trip which didn't go all the way to BP. The second DWE trip, which did go to BP, was much faster.

I've accidentally given myself a long-distance mission at the moment (60+ Kylie roundtrip) but it probably won't be too time-consuming. I've over a Miley logged but tend to fly in short research trips and I have the attention span of a mayfly on speed.

You all are cut from a very different cloth than I. My longest trek into the black was round trip 31k light years and 5 weeks. I haven't had the stamina for more than a day trip of sub 2k round trip distance since then. Even still, there are wonders to see close to home. HIP 69445 if I recall correctly is a nice Wolf Rayet with an ELW around 600ly from SOL.

I set off on my current travels on the 17th December 2015.

I'm still going.

Heading for Sag A in a roundabout way and then will go straight through the Core and out the other side.

I don't play every single day, and then only for a couple of hours at a time (don't want to risk burn-out). So, I've been out for 7 months in real terms, probably only 20 days or so of In Game time...

So far travelled just over 71Kylies from the start point and spend a fair while scanning each new system.. 15 ELW and 24 Ammonia Worlds so far...

This is my third month of my present expedition. I've done about 100k on this one so far.
I started out brushing the western edge of the core, and continued in a north westerly direction.
Across Mare Desperationis, and into the Scutum-Centurus arm and the Abyssal Plain. And then back again.
I'm now past were Jaques is (I'm not stopping due to a lack of Universal Cartographics), and heading back to the bubble.
