Hi Cmds,
I took the plunge and decided to upgrade my ageing pc setup (6 yrs old). Currently have AMD fx8350, 16Gb ram, GTX1080ti, win 7pro, which runs my Pimax 5k+ and my motion rig. This setup works well - but there are bottlenecks in VR which I want to reduce.
Just picked up an Alienware Aurora R8 (cancelled order from Dell so 50% off retail price). It has this main spec:
9th Gen Intel® Core™ i9 9900K (8-Core, 16MB Cache, Overclocked up to 4.7GHz across all cores)
Windows 10 Home 64bit
Dual NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 with 8GB GDDR6 (OC Ready)
32GB Dual Channel DDR4 at 2666MHz; up to 64GB (additional memory sold separately)
512GB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD (Boot) + 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (Storage)
1000w psu
I rather it had a 2080ti and win 10 pro but its a built unit and comes as-is. Question is, would I be better off using the included 2080 gpu that comes with it or should I swap it out for the 1080ti I've already got. I dont think ED uses raytracing or tensor cores which makes some of the 1080ti specs higher than the 2080. Am I wrong? Has anyone else experience of this. I do plan to get 2080ti (or beyond) at some point in the future but for now just want to make best use of the bunch. The R8 arrives on Tuesday.
